The Knights are allowing 38.5 points per game and have given up just 56 points in tournament wins over Temple Christian and Delphos St. John\u2019s. By comparison, the Wildcats give up 39.3 points per game and have allowed only 71 total points in postseason victories over Parkway and Wayne Trace. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"350\" height=\"238\" src=\"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Brant-Richardson-1-5-19-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-111380\"\/><figcaption><strong>Brant Richardson drives to the basket during a regular season matchup against Kalida.<\/strong> <em>Wyatt Richardson\/file photo<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOf course we stress defense, but more importantly our players have to buy into the value of it,\u201d Crestview head coach Jeremy Best said. \u201cOur ability to defend can carry us through our rough stretches that we have at times on the offensive end.  It\u2019s a mentality that we\u2019ve developed and hope to continue to develop.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis time of year you have to be great defensively,\u201d Kalida head coach Ryan Stechschulte said. \u201cThe teams we\u2019re playing are very skilled and well coached. It\u2019s super important to be disciplined defensively and then finish each possession with a rebound.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When the Knights and Wildcats met on January 4, Crestview won 52-38. However, it wasn\u2019t a walk in the park, as Kalida led 25-23 early in the third quarter, before Crestview went on a 18-5 run. Derick Dealey led the Knights with 16 points, while Owen Recker led Wildcat scorers with 13.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTheir leading scorer (Trevor Lambert) was out due to illness,\u201d Best said of the first matchup.  \u201cThis (time) will be a major difference.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe first game with Crestview we were still trying to figure ourselves out, and I think they were too,\u201d Stechschulte said. \u201cThe Knights are much better now than they were early in January, and I believe we are too.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since the loss to Crestview, Kalida has won 15 of 16 games, with the only loss coming in double overtime to Van Wert, while the Knights have won 21 straight. <br>\n\u201cKalida has the ability to just squeeze the air out of you with their physical presence, they are very fundamental and well coached,\u201d Best said \u201cThey are really a throw back type of team that I enjoy watching how they go about their business.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve got to continue to take care of the ball and control the glass,\u201d Stechschulte said of Friday\u2019s rematch. \u201cWe\u2019re also relying heavily on our seniors for leadership.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to claiming the district championship, the winner of Friday\u2019s game will advance to Tuesday\u2019s Division IV regional semifinals at Bowling Green State University.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SCOTT TRUXELL\/independent sports editor It\u2019s probably safe to say Friday\u2019s 7 p.m. Division IV district championship game between Crestview and Kalida at the Elida Field House won\u2019t be a high scoring affair.
