{"id":114518,"date":"2019-03-08T08:41:35","date_gmt":"2019-03-08T13:41:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=114518"},"modified":"2019-03-08T08:41:40","modified_gmt":"2019-03-08T13:41:40","slug":"club-names-oratorical-contest-winners-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2019\/03\/08\/club-names-oratorical-contest-winners-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Club names Oratorical Contest winners"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>VW independent\/submitted information<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Optimist Club of Van Wert&nbsp;held its annual oratorical contest this past Sunday at the Community Health Professionals, challenging local students to address the topic \u201cIs there a fine line between optimism and reality?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Myles Moody, a sixth grade student at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic School, earned first place in the contest, while Madison Osborn, a sixth grade student at Lincolnview, garnered second place, and Garrett Yinger, a seventh grader at Crestview, was third.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"545\" height=\"349\" src=\"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/Optimist-Oratorical-Contest-winners-3-2019.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-114519\"\/><figcaption><strong>Shown are Optimist Club Oratorical Contest participants (from the left) Madalyn Allen, Xavier Magner, Madison Osborn, Myles Moody, and Garrett Yinger. Moody and Osborn will also advance to the regional contest in Lima on April 6.<\/strong> <em>Optimist Club photo<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>All three were awarded medallions and prize money of $300 for first place, $200 for second, and $100 for third. Madalyn Allen and Xavier Magner also competed in the competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Moody and Osborn will advance to the regional contest in Lima on April 6, and possibly on to the district (state) level for the opportunity to win college scholarships.
