Owens is requesting assistance from area farmers and landowners to improve motorists\u2019 public safety.<\/p>\n<p>The sheriff noted that this is the time of year when cornfields reach their full height, which hampers motorist safety at rural intersections. \u201cWhen the view of approaching traffic is blocked, the results can be serious accidents,\u201d Sheriff Owens said. \u201cAnything which opens an intersection from sight obstruction helps insure motorist safety, such as trimming the tops of corn down to ear level.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The sheriff said that, if everyone who farms in Van Wert County would inspect intersections where they have corn and remove sight obstructions, then all motorists traveling county roads would travel at a higher degree of safety.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Van Wert County Sheriff Stan D.
