{"id":117899,"date":"2019-05-15T07:25:18","date_gmt":"2019-05-15T12:25:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=117899"},"modified":"2019-05-15T07:48:31","modified_gmt":"2019-05-15T12:48:31","slug":"bloomfield-given-golden-apple-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2019\/05\/15\/bloomfield-given-golden-apple-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Bloomfield receives Golden Apple Award"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>VW independent\/submitted information<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Julie Bloomfield, fourth-grade teacher at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic School, has been named one of the 2018-2019 Golden Apple Awardwinners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through the generosity of the Jack and Rhodora Donahue Family Foundation, the Golden Apple Awardhas been established to honor outstanding individuals who devote their lives to teaching in Catholic schools in the Diocese of Toledo and the Diocese of Pittsburgh. This is the third time in the past five years that a teacher from St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic School has been given a Golden Apple Award<em>.<\/em>Mary Yackey, St. Mary\u2019s first grade teacher, won the award in 2015 and Therese Tate, retired St. Mary\u2019s kindergarten teacher, won the award in 2014.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"545\" height=\"323\" src=\"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Golden-Apple-Award-5-2019.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-117900\"\/><figcaption><strong>Shown with teacher Julie Bloomfield receiving the Golden Apple Award are (from the left) Senior Director of Education for the Toledo Diocese Matt Daniels, St. Mary\u2019s Principal Daniel Metzger, and\u00a0His Excellency, The Most Reverend Daniel Thomas, Bishop of Toledo.\u00a0<\/strong><em>photo\u00a0provided<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Bloomfield has been a teacher at St. Mary\u2019s for the past 19 years. In those 19 years she has taught fourth and second grades and fifth- and sixth-grade math. Bloomfield also serves as a mentor teacher and, over the last seven years, has worked to help five resident educators become the best educators they can be. Bloomfield also sits on many different school committees, including Catholic Schools Week, Right to Read Week, and steering committee for Accreditation. She has also served as a LIFE Team coordinator for the school and communicated that information to the other teachers at faculty meetings. Bloomfield is also very active in St. Mary\u2019s Church, where she serves as a lector and Eucharistic minister on a regular basis.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI am blessed to be teaching in a Catholic school as I live out my life-long dream of bringing others closer to God,\u201d Bloomfield said. \u201cIt is amazing to see the transformation in a student as they grow and mature. I love seeing them become more aware of the world and the teachings of Jesus Christ.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs our staff meets for prayer and intentions each morning, it is the words of our prayer that speak to my heart the most: St. Mary\u2019s is truly a place where we love to learn and where we learn to love,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMrs. Bloomfield is an essential part of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic School,\u201d said St. Mary\u2019s Principal Dan Metzger. \u201cAs a principal, it is a great feeling to know that if I need help in getting something done, Mrs. Bloomfield will be one of the first people to step up and take it on.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhen you enter Mrs. Bloomfield\u2019s classroom, you see a room buzzing with activity,\u201d Metzger added. \u201cDepending on the day or time, you may see students working independently at tables; interacting with each other at learning centers; using various means of technology, like a Smart Board, iPads, and Chromebooks to reinforce classroom instruction; or working on project-based learning lessons.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMrs. Bloomfield understands that students have to be actively engaged in the learning process,\u201d Metzger noted. \u201cHer classroom is a place of great discovery, adventure, and creativity. She is committed to making herself, her classroom, the whole school, St. Mary of the Assumption Parish, and the Van Wert community the best it can be.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bloomfield attended The Golden Apple Awards Banquet on May 8 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Perrysburg, where she received a Certificate of Achievement, a Golden Apple with a 24-carat gold cross, a Golden Apple lapel pin, and a cash award of $5,000.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>VW independent\/submitted information Julie Bloomfield, fourth-grade teacher at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic School, has been named one of the 2018-2019 Golden Apple Awardwinners.
