Kern, 87, of Fredericksburg, Va., died Saturday, August 13, 2011, at Mary Washington Hospital.<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Kern was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Van Wert and a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star.<\/p>\n<p>Survivors include her children, Jim Kern, Jean Davis, Joyce Reeg and Joel Kern; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.<\/p>\n<p>Her husband, Richard Kern, preceded her in death.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A funeral service will be held at a later date in Hamlin, Kansas.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>There will be no calling hours.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Preferred memorials: First Presbyterian Church in Van Wert.<\/p>\n<p>Arrangements were handled by Covenant Funeral Services of Fredericksburg, Va.<\/p>\n<p>An online guestbook can be found at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.covenantfuneralservice.com\">www.covenantfuneralservice.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mary E.
