{"id":121984,"date":"2019-08-30T03:40:43","date_gmt":"2019-08-30T08:40:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=121984"},"modified":"2019-08-30T03:40:50","modified_gmt":"2019-08-30T08:40:50","slug":"van-wert-netters-top-ottawa-glandorf","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2019\/08\/30\/van-wert-netters-top-ottawa-glandorf\/","title":{"rendered":"Van Wert netters top Ottawa-Glandorf"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>Van Wert independent sports<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>OTTAWA &#8212; Van Wert improved to 5-1 (3-0 WBL) with a 4-1 girls\u2019 tennis win at the Ottawa-Glandorf Community Courts on Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wins came at first singles, where Grace Lott earned a hard fought 7-5, 6-4 victory over Abby Schmiedebusch, and third singles, with Lizzie Rutkowski defeating Alyse Balbaugh 6-4, 6-0. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" height=\"85\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/VW-Cougars_stacked-copy.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-97555\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;This was a great bounce back win for us against a young and hungry O-G squad,\u201d Van Wert head coach Eli Alvarez said. \u201cGrace and Lizzie really played well in the conditions in what was an unusually gusty day.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Van Wert\u2019s first doubles team of Paige Moonshower and Allie Etter topped Megan Ketner and Lauryn Bockrath 6-3, 6-0, while the second doubles team of Kaylee Jennings and Jada Buckner won by an identical score over Claire Ellerbrock and Sami Ellerbrock.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFirst and second doubles didn&#8217;t finish as strong as we would have hoped (both teams were at 4-3 at one point in the second set) but they&#8217;re allowed to have off days,\u201d Alvarez said. \u201cThey&#8217;ve just been so rock solid all season so it&#8217;s unusual, but most importantly they secured the win for us.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At second singles, Ottawa-Glandorf\u2019s Emma Schmiedebusch defeated Alli Morrow 7-6 (7-2), 6-0.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Lady Cougars will host defending WBL champion Shawnee at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe have to put all of our focus on Tuesday&#8217;s match vs Shawnee,&#8221; Alvarez said. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Van Wert independent sports OTTAWA &#8212; Van Wert improved to 5-1 (3-0 WBL) with a 4-1 girls\u2019 tennis win at the Ottawa-Glandorf Community Courts on Thursday.
