Manz and Brynley E. Manz joined Ohio\u2019s \u201cSaved by the Belt\u201d Club after their safety belts saved them from being seriously injured or killed in a crash. The incident occurred on U.S. 127 in Benton Township in Paulding County on July 9.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On&nbsp;Wednesday, Lt. Jonathon Gray, Van Wert Post commander, presented them with \u201cSaved by the Belt\u201d certificates signed by Ohio Department of Public Safety Director Thomas J. Stickrath and Colonel Richard S. Fambro, Patrol superintendent.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHolly and Brynley are living testimony to the effectiveness of safety belts,\u201d Lt. Gray said. \u201cEveryone needs to buckle up, every trip, every time.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2018, 419 people were killed in traffic crashes where a safety belt was available but not in use.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The \u201cSaved by the Belt\u201d Club is a joint effort by the Ohio Department of Public Safety and more than 400 Ohio law enforcement agencies, and is designed to recognize people who have benefited from their decision to wear safety belts.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Holly Manz also received a \u201cSaved by the Belt\u201d license plate bracket.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"545\" height=\"401\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Manz-accident-aftermath-9-2019.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-122255\"\/><figcaption><strong>Shown is Holly Manz\u2019s car following a July 9 accident on U.S. 127 in Paulding County.<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>VW independent\/submitted information PAULDING&nbsp;&#8212; Paulding residents Holly M.
