According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, teens make mistakes and get distracted easily &#8212; especially if their friends are in the car.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"121\" height=\"160\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/osplogo.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2340\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cGetting behind the wheel of a vehicle is a huge responsibility,\u201d said Governor Mike DeWine. \u201cTo prevent senseless tragedies and save lives, teen driver safety and education will continue to be one of the Ohio State Highway Patrol\u2019s main priorities.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Ohio, teen drivers were involved in 132,163 traffic crashes from 2016 to 2018. An action on the part of the teen driver contributed to 68 percent of these crashes. Crashes where teen drivers were at fault resulted in 251 fatalities and 37,428 injuries.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPoor decisions while driving can stay with teens for the rest of their lives,\u201d said Lt. Johnathon Gray, Van Wert Post commander. \u201cIt\u2019s important for youthful drivers to be aware of their surroundings and focus on the task of driving.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The leading causes of teen driver crashes were following too close, failure to yield, and improper lane change. Drug and\/or alcohol impaired driving was a factor in two percent of at-fault teen driver crashes.
