{"id":126204,"date":"2019-12-23T22:34:17","date_gmt":"2019-12-24T03:34:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=126204"},"modified":"2019-12-23T22:34:22","modified_gmt":"2019-12-24T03:34:22","slug":"random-thoughts-nfl-nba-and-fruitcake","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2019\/12\/23\/random-thoughts-nfl-nba-and-fruitcake\/","title":{"rendered":"Random Thoughts: NFL, NBA and fruitcake"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>SCOTT TRUXELL\/<\/strong><em>independent sports editor<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This week\u2019s Random Thoughts center around NFL coaches, Urban Meyer, the Colts, the Bengals, the NBA on Christmas and a non-sports question about fruitcake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Freddie Kitchens<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I have a hard time seeing Freddie Kitchens back as the head coach of the Cleveland Browns next season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While I\u2019m not a fan of yet another coaching change, this is one that probably has to happen and probably will. It just isn\u2019t working.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Other changes<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If the Browns do indeed make a coaching change, they won\u2019t be the only one. Carolina and Washington are already looking for a new coaches and I\u2019ll be surprised if Jason Garrett is back in Dallas next year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There could very well be other changes, including Atlanta and perhaps even Pittsburgh.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Urban Meyer<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019m not buying any of the rumors that Urban Meyer will be an NFL coach next year or ever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I just don\u2019t see it working out. Does anyone really think he could work under a micromanager\/owner like Jerry Jones, Dan Snyder, Jimmy Haslam, etc.?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>C<strong><em>olts quarterback situation<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I saw a story over the weekend that brought up the possibility of Andrew Luck returning to the Colts in 2020. I\u2019m not saying that won\u2019t happen, but I wouldn\u2019t hold my breath while waiting.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While I\u2019m not a Colts fan (I don\u2019t root against them though), I\u2019m not quite sure what to think of Jacoby Brissett, and I have to believe the team will take a long look at college quarterbacks in a rich draft.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>The Bengals<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Silver lining \u2013 Sunday\u2019s loss to Miami ensured Cincinnati will have the top overall pick in the 2020 NFL draft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At least for now, all signs point to the Bengals taking Joe Burrow, but we\u2019ll see. These things sometimes have a funny way of changing before the draft rolls around.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>NBA on Christmas<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Five NBA games will be played on Christmas Day and this may sound a little corny, but I feel bad for the people who have to work at the arenas that day.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I can\u2019t imagine that\u2019s what most of them had planned for Christmas Day.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Fruitcake<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Obviously, this is non-sports related, but I have to ask \u2013 has anyone&nbsp;actually eaten fruitcake?
