The Cougar harriers opened up their season at the Blue Jay Invitational this past Saturday. The boys\u2019 team finished third, while the girls\u2019 squad was a respectable seventh. It was a day were underclassmen led for the Cougars, as they raced with a split squad at the predominantly Division III meet.<\/p>\n
Leading the way for the Cougar boys was freshman Connor Holiday, who took top honors on the day, cruising through the course in 16:58, which was good enough for the win. Holiday was followed by fellow freshman Reed Baxter in 18:03, and senior Nathan Williams in a time of 18:23.\u00a0 Freshman Nick Keber\u00a0 (18:26) and freshman Jordan Butler (18:31) rounded out the Cougar scoring.<\/p>\n
On the girls\u2019 side, Schelissa Williams was the top Cougar girl to cross the line, running the course in 21:23, good for a 17th place finish. Williams was followed by freshman Whitney Meyers in 22:40 (31st), freshman Becky Anderson in 23:22 (46th), sophomore Courtney Smith in 24:13 (61st) and sophomore Karlyn Koontz in 24:30 (66th).<\/p>\n
