{"id":127886,"date":"2020-02-07T00:44:32","date_gmt":"2020-02-07T05:44:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=127886"},"modified":"2020-02-07T00:44:38","modified_gmt":"2020-02-07T05:44:38","slug":"odot-accepts-paint-the-plow-applications","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2020\/02\/07\/odot-accepts-paint-the-plow-applications\/","title":{"rendered":"ODOT accepts Paint the Plow applications"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>Submitted information<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>LIMA &#8212;&nbsp;The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) District 1 is accepting applications for this year\u2019s Paint the Plow program through Friday, March 13.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>High schools and vocational school groups within its eight-county region, including Allen, Defiance, Hancock, Hardin, Paulding, Putnam, Van Wert, and Wyandot counties are eligible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"545\" height=\"363\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/ODOT-Paint-the-Plow-promo-pic-2-2020.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-127887\"\/><figcaption><strong>Miller City-New Cleveland High School was declared the overall ODOT choice winner last year.\u00a0<\/strong><em>ODOT\u00a0photo<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The Paint the Plow program allows students to paint an ODOT snowplow blade with a message of school spirit, Ohio pride, patriotism or safety. The decorated blades are displayed at local community events before being used in regular winter operations. In ODOT District 1, the contest has been held annually since 2014.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPaint the Plow is a fun and creative community outreach initiative,\u201d said Chris Hughes, deputy director of ODOT District 1. \u201cWe welcome the imaginative designs the art programs develop and enjoy displaying their creations locally.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Plow blades will be dropped off to participating schools during the week of March 30 and picked up by May 8. Winners will be announced prior to Memorial Day via the media and social media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last year, Miller City-New Cleveland High School in Miller City won the overall ODOT choice title, while Cory-Rawson High School in Rawson took the people\u2019s choice award, which was determined based on social media votes. The same award categories will return this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe would like to encourage the artists to develop messages that promote safe driving,\u201d said Hughes. \u201cSpecial recognition will be given to those entries which raise awareness on topics such as distracted driving, seat belts usage, and adherence to Ohio law which requires motorists to slow down or move over law when approaching vehicles with flashing lights along the highway,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Printed applications are being distributed to all eligible schools within the month.
