Coldwater\u2019s size and a 15-0 third quarter scoring run proved to be too much for Lincolnview, as the Lancers fell 59-52 on Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lincolnview fell behind 9-3 in the first quarter but battled back when Aaron Cavinder drilled a pair of treys and Collin Overholt converted a layup to give Lincolnview an 11-9 lead. A bucket and a free throw by Clayton Leeth helped give the hosts a 16-13 advantage going into the second period, but a basket by Tyler Schwieterman and a triple by Noah Miller put the Cavaliers ahead 18-16. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The two teams went back and fourth for the remainder of the second quarter, but Coldwater took the lead for good when Myles Blasingame hit a trey late in the period. Jake Hemmelgarn and Will Broering each added a basket to make it 32-27, but Overholt\u2019s basket before the buzzer pulled the Lancers to within three.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A hook shot by Jake Bowersock to open the third quarter made it a one point game, 32-31, but the Lancers would not score again for nearly six minutes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

\u201cI really thought our 2-3 zone did a nice job on them,\u201d Coldwater head coach Nick Fisher said. \u201cWe mixed it up a little bit with some 1-3-1 and some man, but the 2-3 did the bulk of it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While Lincolnview (10-9) struggled to score, Ethan Post nailed a three pointer, then Miller converted an offensive rebound into a layup before draining a trey. A bucket by Schwieterman gave Coldwater a 42-31 lead with three minutes left in the quarter. Schwieterman tallied 12 points off the bench for the Cavaliers (9-10).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After a Lincolnview timeout, Post, who finished with a game high 18 points, hit another three and Schwieterman scored again to make it 47-31. Cavinder stopped the run with a basket at the 1:05 mark, and the Lancers trailed 49-36 entering the fourth quarter. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThey made shots and you have to give them credit,\u201d Lincolnview head coach Brett Hammons said. \u201cI don\u2019t think our defense was bad on them, we lost them from time to time, but they made shots and they\u2019re a good team. They\u2019re big, they\u2019re strong, they\u2019re athletic and on our end we made some mistakes \u2013 it\u2019s something we have to learn from.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIf we want to beat good teams like Coldwater, we can\u2019t let teams go on runs like that and we can\u2019t get down 16 points and then try to battle back,\u201d Hammons added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lincolnview did make a run in the fourth quarter, with Overholt scoring six points, including a layup off a steal. A basket by Creed Jesse and a deep left corner trey by Cavinder pulled Lincolnview to within three, 53-50 with 2:40 left, but the Lancers could draw no closer, as Coldwater hit five foul shots in the final 18 seconds. Cavinder finished with 17 points, while Overholt had 10. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur kids battled and some shots fell in,\u201d Hammons said. \u201cWe were down three and had three wide open threes to tie it up, but they rattled in and out. We gave ourselves a chance, we just wish we could have put ourselves in a better spot, but this is something we have to learn from, especially with tournament time coming around.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With a starting lineup that went 6-1, 6-2, 6-3, 6-4 and 6-5, Coldwater controlled the boards 32-22, with 10 of those on the offensive end. The Cavaliers connected on 22-48 shots, including 7-15 from three point range, and 8-13 foul shots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lincolnview was 21-51 from the floor and went to the free throw line just twice, converting one. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Lancers will travel to Ada on Friday then will host Arlington on Saturday (5 p.m. JV start).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
