{"id":128215,"date":"2020-02-15T00:18:02","date_gmt":"2020-02-15T05:18:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=128215"},"modified":"2020-02-15T00:18:07","modified_gmt":"2020-02-15T05:18:07","slug":"knights-use-treys-to-defeat-paulding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2020\/02\/15\/knights-use-treys-to-defeat-paulding\/","title":{"rendered":"Knights use treys to defeat Paulding"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>SCOTT TRUXELL\/<\/strong><em>independent sports editor<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CONVOY &#8212; Junior Kalen Etzler scored 21 points and freshman Gavin Etzler added 17 to help Crestview shake off a pair of losses with a convincing 65-51 Northwest Conference win over Paulding on Friday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last weekend, the Knights (10-11, 3-4 NWC) struggled from beyond the three point arc, going just 1-25 in losses to Lincolnview and Wayne Trace, but that changed on Friday night. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"350\" height=\"414\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/Kalen-Etzler-2-14-2020.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-128214\"\/><figcaption><strong>Kalen Etzler slams in two of his 21 points during Friday&#8217;s win against Paulding.<\/strong> <em>Wyatt Richardson\/Van Wert independent<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>In the first quarter alone, the younger Etzler hit three treys and the Ohio State commit added two of his own, then in the second quarter, Kaden Short and Nathan Lichtle each hit one, then Gavin Etzler drilled two more in the third quarter. Kalen Etzler and Lichtle each hit another in the fourth and JJ Ward added a pair in the final period. As a team, the Knights converted 13 treys. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe struggled last week from three point range, so I\u2019m proud of the way we bounced back tonight and continued to shoot it with confidence,\u201d Crestview head coach Doug Etzler said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Knights led 19-12 at the end of the first quarter and 31-25 at halftime, with Blake McGarvey accounting for 10 of Paulding\u2019s 13 second quarter points. McGarvey went on to finish with 18 points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Peyton Beckman, who was held scoreless in the first half, scored 10 of Paulding\u2019s 13 third quarter points, but the Panthers (6-13, 2-5 NWC) trailed 47-37 entering the fourth quarter.
