{"id":128403,"date":"2020-02-19T22:19:58","date_gmt":"2020-02-20T03:19:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=128403"},"modified":"2020-02-19T22:20:35","modified_gmt":"2020-02-20T03:20:35","slug":"lady-knights-ground-ayersville-48-33","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2020\/02\/19\/lady-knights-ground-ayersville-48-33\/","title":{"rendered":"Lady Knights ground Ayersville 48-33"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>SCOTT TRUXELL\/<\/strong><em>independent sports editor<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PAULDING &#8212; A pair of 10-0 scoring runs by Crestview allowed the Lady Knights to pull away from Ayersville, on the way to a 48-33 Division IV sectional semifinal win at Paulding High School on Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was the eighth win in nine games for Crestview and it put the Lady Knights in the lower bracket sectional championship game against Edon on Saturday. The Bombers defeated Edgerton 44-32 to advance to the title game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"350\" height=\"434\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/Lexi-Gregory-2-19-2020.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-128405\"\/><figcaption><strong>Lexi Gregory fires up a three point shot during Wednesday night&#8217;s game against Ayersville. Gregory hit a trio of treys in the game and became Crestview&#8217;s all time three point leader.<\/strong> <em>Wyatt Richardson\/Van Wert independent<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m really proud of our effort and we had a lot of girls that stepped up tonight,\u201d Crestview head coach Mark Gregory said. \u201cWe got a lot of girls in the scoring column and I thought we had girls that did a nice job rebounding.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cCredit Ayersville though because they\u2019re a scrappy and physical team, they crashed the defensive glass and credit our kids because they continued to battle all night long,\u201d the coach added. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Crestview jumped out to an early 9-3 lead with triples by Lexi Gregory, Kylie Etzler and Olivia Cunningham, then the Lady Knights later scored 10 unanswered points, starting with a Gregory layup at the first quarter buzzer, then buckets by Gregory, Etzler, Bailey Gregory and Laci McCoy to put the Lady Knights ahead 21-7 halfway through the second quarter. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt came from the defensive end, making plays and deflections,\u201d Gregory said of his team\u2019s scoring runs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Leading 29-14 early in the third quarter, Crestview again scored 10 unanswered points, with seven coming off the hands of Lexi Gregory, who finished with 17 and set a new Crestview record for most three pointers in a career. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s a big thing for her and I\u2019m kind of glad it\u2019s done and now we can move forward, but I\u2019m proud of her for all the work and time that she\u2019s put in,\u201d Gregory said of his oldest daughter. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Leading 41-23 to begin the fourth quarter, Kaylee Wolford scored a pair of quick baskets to push the lead to 45-23. She finished with four points and four rebounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe had a lot of girls step up tonight,\u201d Gregory said. \u201cI thought Kylie Etzler did so many good things defensively and offensively, Laci McCoy\u2019s rebounding and defense helped, and Kaylee Wolford came in and gave us a lift off the bench. I think the girls are buying into what we\u2019re trying to do and I\u2019m excited to see what we can do here.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bailey Gregory scored 10 points and Cunningham added eight. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a team, Crestview was 20-43 (47 percent) from the floor and held a 22-16 rebounding advantage, with McCoy accounting for six boards.
