{"id":129375,"date":"2020-03-17T07:23:43","date_gmt":"2020-03-17T12:23:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=129375"},"modified":"2020-03-17T16:21:18","modified_gmt":"2020-03-17T21:21:18","slug":"primary-suspended-until-6-2-other-changes-announced","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2020\/03\/17\/primary-suspended-until-6-2-other-changes-announced\/","title":{"rendered":"Ohio Primary Election rescheduled for June"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>Staff\/submitted reports<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was a confusing few hours, but Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and Ohio Director of Health Dr. Amy Acton finally made the decision around 10 p.m. Monday to suspend Tuesday\u2019s in-person primary election to protect people from any further spreading of the coronavirus (COVID-19).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.old.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Coronavirus-artwork-3-14-2020.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-129293\" width=\"300\" height=\"303\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The decision was made after a judge rejected Dr. Acton\u2019s lawsuit seeking to suspend the election because of the possibility of further spreading of the coronavirus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The primary has now been postponed until Tuesday, June 2, when boards of election will conduct&nbsp;in-person voting at the regular polling locations in Van Wert County, according to County Elections Director Linda Stutz.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Van Wert Board of Elections understands that there has been great confusion as to whether the election would proceed or be cancelled and hope that it has not caused anyone any hardships,\u201d Stutz said in a statement on the decision to suspend the election.&nbsp;\u201cWe greatly appreciate all the patience and support and offers of help that have been received from our poll workers and the general public&nbsp;in trying to give our voters an opportunity to vote.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, other local organizations are also making some changes in an attempt to keep the coronavirus from spreading:&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To reduce any potential spread of the COVID-19 virus, Van Wert County Department Job and Family Services will remain open, but will be temporarily closing its first floor front desk, Child Support front desk, and Ohio Means Jobs Resource Room, effective Tuesday.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Customers will be asked to submit all applications and verifications to the agency via the agency drop box located in the first floor front desk lobby. The box will be monitored and cleared often. Updates will be posted on the Van Wert Theatre website (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.vwhstheatre.weebly.com)\/\">www.VWHSTheatre.weebly.com)<\/a>, Facebook, and Twitter pages as more information becomes available.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First Federal of Van Wert is making some changes in its business practices due to the coronavirus pandemic. Due to recent recommendations from state and federal government, First Federal will be handling all possible transactions through the drive-thru area during normal business hours.
