{"id":129848,"date":"2020-03-30T22:19:03","date_gmt":"2020-03-31T03:19:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=129848"},"modified":"2020-04-01T00:41:41","modified_gmt":"2020-04-01T05:41:41","slug":"supt-praises-shutdown-efforts-of-cview-teachers-staff","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2020\/03\/30\/supt-praises-shutdown-efforts-of-cview-teachers-staff\/","title":{"rendered":"C&#8217;view supt. commends shutdown efforts"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>SCOTT TRUXELL\/<\/strong><em>independent writer<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CONVOY &#8212; The Crestview Local Board of Education wasted no time Monday, working through a light March meeting agenda in just 12 minutes o.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Crestview-Board-I-3-30-20.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-129855\" width=\"350\" height=\"243\"\/><figcaption>Crestview Superintendent Kathy Mollenkopf (front), District Treasurer Ashley Whetsel (right front) and Crestview Board members (from the left) Andy Perrott, Nan Grace, Brad Perrott, Lori Bittner, and John Auld keep their social distance during the board&#8217;s March meeting on Monday. <em>Scott Truxell\/Van Wert independent<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The meeting was moved to the elementary cafeteria to allow for social distancing for those in attendance.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During her report to the board, Superintendent Kathy Mollenkopf commended the efforts of teachers, staff, and administrators during the COVID-19 shutdown, noting that a lot of hard work has been put in during the transition to e-learning. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been in communication with our administrators daily, our teachers weekly, some of our teachers more than once a week, and also different groups of students and parents throughout this period, trying to keep abreast of what concerns might arise,\u201d Mollenkopf said. \u201cI\u2019ve also participated in several e-learning classes as well and I really thoroughly enjoyed them.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe have an amazing teaching staff and they\u2019re dedicated to the students and I can\u2019t say enough about their efforts,\u201d she added. \u201cMr. (Shane) Leeth has been invaluable as our IT administrator. He\u2019s put in many hours to make sure things are running for students and teachers as we navigate these platforms.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mollenkopf also thanked maintenance\/custodial supervisor Geoff Waddles for checking the building and athletic complex each day, and she noted that meals continue to be distributed once a week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>The superintendent reminded the board that the district office remains open from 7:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. each day<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She also addressed Governor DeWine\u2019s order that schools remain closed until at least May 1 and said the district will do what needs to be done to continue the education of students. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With schools closed, a wait-and-see approach is being taken for the eighth grade trip to Washington, D.C., the prom, and graduation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWith these seniors, I\u2019d really like to see them have a graduation ceremony and for them to be recognized, even if it has to occur at a late date, later in June,\u201d Mollenkopf explained. \u201cI think we don\u2019t cross anything off yet.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before the meeting, Mollenkopf said that work continues on the classroom addition project and the Early Childhood Center, and she noted both projects remain on schedule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The board approved one-year preschool teaching contracts for Brooke Staley, Halle Beougher and Lexi Meyer; Sara Pugh, kindergarten, and Jackson Hemmelgarn, middle school math. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Board members also gave approval to the 2021-2022 school calendar and a Career Education Opportunity (CEO) Program agreement with Van Wert City Schools. An overnight trip to the FFA state convention in Columbus April 30 and May 1 was approved, subject to Governor Mike DeWine reopening schools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The board agreed to purchase a new 84-seat school bus with lap belts for $95,337.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The next meeting of the Crestview Local Board of Education will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, April 20. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SCOTT TRUXELL\/independent writer CONVOY &#8212; The Crestview Local Board of Education wasted no time Monday, working through a light March meeting agenda in just 12 minutes o.
