{"id":130824,"date":"2020-04-30T03:49:19","date_gmt":"2020-04-30T08:49:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=130824"},"modified":"2020-04-30T03:49:22","modified_gmt":"2020-04-30T08:49:22","slug":"ohsaa-no-spring-football-in-ohio","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2020\/04\/30\/ohsaa-no-spring-football-in-ohio\/","title":{"rendered":"OHSAA: No spring football in Ohio"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>SCOTT TRUXELL\/<\/strong><em>independent sports editor<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>COLUMBUS &#8212; Perhaps you\u2019ve seen or heard a rumor that because of COVID-19 concerns, high school football in Ohio might be played in the spring of 2021 instead of the fall of 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That information recently made the rounds on social media and other platforms under the heading \u201cOHSAA Revised Two Year Schedule,\u201d and it said it came from a reliable source. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" height=\"186\" src=\"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/TimStried-e1512591785620.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-96107\"\/><figcaption>Tim Stried<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>It also claimed that 2020 fall sports would include baseball, softball boys and girls golf, boys and girls tennis, track and field, lacrosse and field hockey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The information that circulated also claimed that winter sports would include a shortened basketball season, wrestling, swimming, bowling and gymnastics, followed by boys and girls soccer, volleyball and football in the spring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It claimed high school football\u2019s regular season would begin March 22, 2021, with the playoffs starting on May 28, and championship weekend June 25-28.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In some respects it sounds feasible, leading many people to believe it\u2019s true or at least a real possibility, but according to Ohio High School Director of Communications Tim Stried, the information is false.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere is no truth to that,\u201d Stried said. \u201cThat didn\u2019t come from anyone at the OHSAA.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, OHSAA Executive Director Jerry Snodgrass took to Twitter to remind school administrators that any changes or updates to schedules, bylaw adjustments or regulations will always come from the Ohio High School Athletic Association and not through \u201creliable sources.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Stried did acknowledge that the OHSAA is planning for many different possible scenarios for this fall, just in case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur sport administration staff is having many meetings with each other and Jerry to map out various scenarios,\u201d Stried explained. \u201cWe are listening to input and feedback from others, but this decision will mainly be driven by when the Governor and the Ohio Department of Health deem it safe for school facilities to reopen.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As it stands now, practices for 2020 fall sports \u2013 cross country, golf, football and volleyball \u2013 will begin on August 1. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SCOTT TRUXELL\/independent sports editor COLUMBUS &#8212; Perhaps you\u2019ve seen or heard a rumor that because of COVID-19 concerns, high school football in Ohio might be played in the spring of 2021 instead of the fall of 2020.
