{"id":131000,"date":"2020-05-05T22:28:58","date_gmt":"2020-05-06T03:28:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=131000"},"modified":"2020-05-05T22:29:01","modified_gmt":"2020-05-06T03:29:01","slug":"ywca-awarded-state-domestic-violence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2020\/05\/05\/ywca-awarded-state-domestic-violence\/","title":{"rendered":"YWCA awarded state domestic violence $$"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>VW independent\/submitted information<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>COLUMBUS &#8212; Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost announced his office distributed nearly $1 million in funding to domestic violence shelters and coalitions across the state, including a local domestic violence program, to assist battered men, women, and children in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" height=\"221\" src=\"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/Dave-Yost-headshot-3-2019.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-114727\"\/><figcaption>Dave Yost<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhile we have been asked to stay at home, sometimes home isn\u2019t the safest place,\u201d Yost said. \u201cThanks to the General Assembly, this money will be used to keep life-saving services available to those who need to escape dangerous environments.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The $950,000 in domestic violence grants and statewide training grants has been awarded evenly amongst 48 shelters across the state, including the YWCA of Van Wert County, with an earmarked 10 percent ($95,000) going to the statewide domestic violence coalition. The Ohio Domestic Violence Network, a federally-recognized coalition for domestic violence programs in the state, received the training grant so that they can help ensure recipients of the funding abide by federal and state standards for providing trauma-informed services for survivors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFor the first time ever, Ohio\u2019s domestic violence programs have a stable source of funding from the state\u2019s general fund,\u201d said Mary O\u2019Doherty, executive director of the Ohio Domestic Violence Network. \u201cWe greatly appreciate the leadership of Rep. Laura Lanese (R-Grove City) who led the effort to make this happen.
