{"id":131227,"date":"2020-05-13T22:29:50","date_gmt":"2020-05-14T03:29:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=131227"},"modified":"2020-05-13T22:29:54","modified_gmt":"2020-05-14T03:29:54","slug":"optimists-seeking-help-with-flag-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2020\/05\/13\/optimists-seeking-help-with-flag-project\/","title":{"rendered":"Optimists seeking help with flag project"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>VW independent\/submitted information<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Optimist Club of Van Wert is preparing for its 2020 Avenue of Flags season.&nbsp;This year&#8217;s season promises to be the biggest to date, with more than 300 flags expected to be displayed this summer.&nbsp;The club is asking for help from the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"102\" height=\"102\" src=\"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/Optimist-Club-logo.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1225\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The club places a 3-by-5-foot high quality American flag on a 10-foot flag pole in front of homes and businesses for a few days surrounding five national holidays. The program is the club&#8217;s largest fundraising activity, and proceeds are used to support local youth programs such as after-prom and scholarships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With the program rapidly growing, more help is needed to assemble and place the flags.&nbsp;The club is&nbsp;looking for individuals, businesses, or volunteer organizations that want to help with this patriotic project.&nbsp;For other non-profit organizations that might help, there is potential for some revenue sharing.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The club is accepting help of any sort.&nbsp;Those wanting to help do not need to be members of the Optimist Club to lend a hand with the project.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Those interested in helping can email\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:flags@optimistvw.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"flags@optimistvw.com (opens in a new tab)\">flags@optimistvw.com<\/a>\u00a0or call Club president Trevor Webster at 419.232.2057.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>VW independent\/submitted information The Optimist Club of Van Wert is preparing for its 2020 Avenue of Flags season.&nbsp;This year&#8217;s season promises to be the biggest to date, with more than 300 flags expected to be displayed this summer.&nbsp;The club is asking for help from the community.
