Wells was sworn in Thursday by Mayor Louis Ehmer as a full-time Van Wert police officer. (Dave Mosier\/Van Wert independent)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been a long time coming,\u201d Wells said, noting that he has wanted to be a police officer ever since he job-shadowed Officers Tim and Greg Blackmore when he was in seventh grade.<\/p>\n<p>Officer Well\u2019s appointment will fill one of the department\u2019s vacancies and will move the department closer to its authorized staffing levels.<\/p>\n<p>Wells began his law enforcement career as a corrections officer at the Van Wert County Correctional Facility in 2001. He was hired by the Van Wert Police Department in May 2006 as a dispatcher and then in October 2006 became a dispatch\/reserve officer prior to accepting the position as a full-time officer.<\/p>\n<p>Officer Wells and his wife, Stephanie, live in Van Wert with their daughter, Alyssa.<\/p>\n<p>Police Chief Joel Hammond opened the ceremony by welcoming those who came to see Wells\u2019 swearing-in.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s great to have family and friends here today \u2026 co-workers .. and members of the administration to welcome Bryon into this new chapter of his career,\u201d Chief Hammond said.<\/p>\n<p>The police chief also gave new Officer Wells his first official orders as a full-time officer, noting that he would begin his first official day as an officer on September 11, starting at 7 a.m. Officer Wells will be on first shift for about a month, and will then move into the regular officer rotation.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_13228\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-13228\" style=\"width: 545px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-13228\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/Bryon-Wells-sworn-in-9-8-11-group.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"545\" height=\"361\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-13228\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Shown at new Van Wert Police Officer Bryon Wells&#039; swearing-on ceremony are (from the left) Safety-Service Director Jay Fleming, Officer Wells, Mayor Louis Ehmer and Police Chief Joel Hammond.
