During that same time, 15 percent of speed-related traffic crashes involved at least one driver between the ages of 15 and 19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/OSHP-Speed-Bulletin-2020.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-134698\" width=\"350\" height=\"354\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Unsafe speed was attributed to 950 fatal crashes, resulting in 1,040 deaths from 2017-2019. Statewide, this represented 30 percent of all fatal crashes. Of these fatal crashes, 49 percent were associated with drunk or drugged driving; while following too close, improper lane change, and left of center violations also contributed to dangerous and deadly crashes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cGetting behind the wheel of a vehicle is a serious responsibility,\u201d said Governor Mike DeWine. \u201cTo prevent senseless tragedies and save lives, drivers should always keep their attention on the road and obey speed limits.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Male drivers accounted for 59 percent of speed-related crashes, as well as 61 percent of all speed citations in the state.
