{"id":135519,"date":"2020-09-27T21:52:56","date_gmt":"2020-09-28T02:52:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=135519"},"modified":"2020-09-27T21:53:00","modified_gmt":"2020-09-28T02:53:00","slug":"vw-competes-at-wbl-tennis-tournament","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2020\/09\/27\/vw-competes-at-wbl-tennis-tournament\/","title":{"rendered":"VW competes at WBL tennis tournament"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>Van Wert independent sports<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ELIDA \u2013 Allie Etter was Van Wert\u2019s highest finisher at the Western Buckeye League tennis tournament in Elida on Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Shawnee\u2019s Kunmi Ojo defeated Etter, 6-1, 6-1 in Saturday\u2019s semifinal match, but the Cougar senior bounced back to finish third with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Madison Snider of Wapakoneta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"200\" height=\"113\" src=\"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/VW-Cougars_stacked-copy.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-96499\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>At second singles, Van Wert\u2019s Grace Lott finished fourth after a hard fought loss to Ottawa-Glandorf\u2019s Sami Ellerbrock, who posted a 6-2, 2-6, 7-3 (3) victory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alyse Balbaugh of Ottawa-Glandorf took third place honors with a 6-2, 6-4 third singles win over Van Wert\u2019s Lizzie Rutkowski. The first doubles team of Sophie Rutkowski and Natalie Benner finished fifth with an 8-6 eight-game pro set format against Ottawa-Glandorf\u2019s Megan Ketner and lauryn Bockrath, and the second doubles team of Jamie Burenga and Tayzia Havill also finished fifth with an 8-2 pro set win over Marlo Harter and Taylor Crates of Elida.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Van Wert finished fourth in the WBL regular season standings, fourth in the tournament and fourth in the final standings.
