Before that, the facility was on diversion status just before Christmas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-large\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"350\" height=\"271\" src=\"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/Van-Wert-Health-1-3-2021-e1641375619689.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-149932\"\/><figcaption>Van Wert Health went on diversion status Sunday afternoon. <em>Scott Truxell\/Van Wert independent<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe recent increase of COVID and influenza cases in our region is stretching our hospital personnel and resources,\u201d Rager explained. \u201cWhen we declare that we are on a diversion status, this means we may have to transfer care for a patient to another facility. It\u2019s not uncommon for our hospital, or any other hospital to be on emergency diversion status.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s simply a response when we have a spike in the number of patients at our hospital,\u201d she added. \u201cAt times throughout the year, we will go on diversion for only an hour and sometimes it extends for several hours at a time.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rager went on to say the hospital wants the right care for the right patient and the right time, but added in situations with limited resources, accomplishing that can be a challenge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIf we do not have the resources to admit additional patients, we will work with another facility to transfer the patient\u2019s care to that facility,\u201d Rager stated. \u201cDiversion is also only done when it is safe to send the patient elsewhere and they are stable enough to make the journey.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Regardless of the situation, if a patient comes to the hospital with an emergency, Rager said the hospital personnel will do whatever they can to help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPatients should never worry about being denied care or sent somewhere else during an emergency,\u201d Rager stated. \u201cThe staff at Van Wert Health are specially trained have the ability to prioritize and take care of emergency needs as they arise.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rager noted that several other hospitals in the northwest Ohio and northeast Indiana region are on diversion as well, making it a region-wide issue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHospital administrators throughout the region are working together to manage the diversion situation and to help patients get the care they need,\u201d Rager said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Editor&#8217;s note: As of 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Van Wert Health is no longer under diversion status.
