{"id":151333,"date":"2022-02-15T10:39:30","date_gmt":"2022-02-15T15:39:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=151333"},"modified":"2022-02-15T10:39:34","modified_gmt":"2022-02-15T15:39:34","slug":"chp-teams-with-family-owned-pharmacies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2022\/02\/15\/chp-teams-with-family-owned-pharmacies\/","title":{"rendered":"CHP teams with family-owned pharmacies"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>Submitted information and VW independent staff<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Community Health Professionals (CHP) began delivering in-home hospice services in northwest Ohio in 1985 and hat same year, Phil and Robin Farris founded P&amp;R Home IV Service in their home in rural Van Wert County.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The relationship between the home health and hospice agency and the home infusion service was the start of a business relationship lasting 36 years. CHP Home Care &amp; Hospice relied upon P&amp;R to deliver hospice medications and medical equipment with a 24-hour, local, emergency delivery response.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the end of 2021, P&amp;R closed its pharmacy but its medical equipment business and locations \u2013 P&amp;R Medical Connection \u2013 remain in operation. For pharmacy coverage for its hospice program, CHP is now partnering with two local, family-owned pharmacies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kaup Pharmacy, based in Fort Recovery, supplies medications for patients served by CHP offices in Ada-Hardin County, Celina, Lima, Van Wert, and Wapakoneta. Okuley\u2019s Pharmacy, based in Defiance, supplies the Archbold, Bryan, Defiance, Delphos, Paulding, and Ada-Hancock County areas. Rite Aid stores in the region are contracted for backup coverage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"550\" height=\"354\" src=\"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Kaup-Pharmacy.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-151334\"\/><figcaption>Kaup Pharmacy (L-R): Jason Andrews, Business Manager, Jill Andrews, Vice President, Lorri, and Jerry Kaup, founders.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe have a lot of respect for Phil and Robin Farris and for CHP and we\u2019re honored to be working with CHP now and carry on the tradition of fast, reliable, and local services to hospice patients and families,\u201d Jerry Kaup, RPh, said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kaup Pharmacy was founded in 1980 by pharmacists Jerry and Lorri Kaup. They have worked with local hospice agencies for nearly 40 years. Hospice care is what led them into making specific medications prepared for a patient\u2019s individual needs &#8211; a process known as compounding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe work with physicians to make medicines that are better for patients,\u201d Kaup said. \u201cIn hospice, we can\u2019t stop the cycle of life and death but if we can make it easier and help patients to pass with dignity, we\u2019ve done our jobs.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Okuley\u2019s Pharmacy is a family-owned business established in 1950 by Blaine Okuley in Continental. In 1995, it was purchased by Blaine and Anita Okuley\u2019s son, Travis, and his wife, Kieu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They expanded the store\u2019s services, including a compounding business that works closely with local hospices to help provide solutions for patients with issues that aren\u2019t being addressed through traditional medications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re proud to carry on our family&#8217;s business with the third generation,\u201d Kieu Okuley,\u201d RPh said. \u201cOur son Konnor joined the team full time. We\u2019re looking forward to caring for our local communities for years to come.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"550\" height=\"353\" src=\"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Okuleys-Pharmacy.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-151335\"\/><figcaption>Okuley\u2019s Pharmacy (L-R): Lauren Bosch, Head Pharmacist-Defiance, Konnor Okuley, Medical Equipment Manager, Travis, and Kieu Okuley, owners.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Okuley\u2019s recently hired an additional pharmacist to focus specifically on hospice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHospice fits naturally into our business,\u201d Okuley said. \u201cEasing pain, providing comfort to patients, keeping people at home with medical equipment; it\u2019s what we\u2019ve been about from the beginning.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new relationship between CHP, Kaup, and Okuley\u2019s brings together the strengths of three well-established, local businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe had a great relationship with P&amp;R for so many years and we wish them well as they continue offering quality DME services,\u201d Brent Tow, CHP President\/CEO said. \u201cThey provided our hospice patients and families with personal, prompt, and compassionate service.
