{"id":152260,"date":"2022-03-14T13:24:00","date_gmt":"2022-03-14T18:24:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=152260"},"modified":"2022-03-15T04:08:27","modified_gmt":"2022-03-15T09:08:27","slug":"emerson-rd-fatal-crash-under-investigation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2022\/03\/14\/emerson-rd-fatal-crash-under-investigation\/","title":{"rendered":"Emerson Rd. crash under investigation"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>VW independent news<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A fatal crash on Emerson Road in Pleasant Township is under investigation by the Van Wert County Sheriff\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Sheriff Tom Riggenbach, deputies received a 911 call at 12:31 p.m. Saturday, after a car crashed into a wooded area near the 9000 block of Emerson Road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Based on evidence gathered at the scene, the crash occurred when a westbound 2005 Honda Civic driven by Edward Menkhaus of Okeana, Ohio, went off the right side of the road and struck several trees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Riggenbach said the car sustained heavy damage and Menkhaus was pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Drugs or alcohol are not considered factors in the crash. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ohio City Fire and EMS, Van Wert Fire, and Van Wert County CERT assisted at the scene.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>VW independent news A fatal crash on Emerson Road in Pleasant Township is under investigation by the Van Wert County Sheriff\u2019s Office.
