McGinnis and Kaylee S. McGinnis have joined Ohio\u2019s \u201cSaved by the Belt\u201d Club after their safety belts saved them from sustaining life-threatening injuries. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-large\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"320\" height=\"267\" src=\"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/McGinnis-Saved-By-the-Belt-4-1-2022.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-152784\"\/><figcaption>Christin and Kalylee McGinnis were presented with &#8220;Save by the Belt certificates by Trooper Chase Black. <em>Photo submitted<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The crash occurred on Van Wert- Willshire Road in Van Wert County December 15, 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper Chase Black presented them with \u201cSaved by the Belt\u201d certificates signed by Ohio Department of Public Safety Director Thomas J. Stickrath and Colonel Richard S. Fambro, Patrol superintendent. They also received a \u201cSaved by the Belt\u201d license plate bracket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cChristin and Kaylee are a living testimony to the effectiveness of safety belts,\u201d Van Wert Post Commander Lt. Tim Grigsby, Van Wert Post Commander said. \u201cEveryone needs to buckle up every trip, every time.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Provisional data from 2021 shows 565 people in Ohio were killed in traffic crashes where a safety belt was available, but not in use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The \u201cSaved by the Belt\u201d Club is a joint effort by the Ohio Department of Public Safety and more than 400 Ohio law enforcement agencies.
