Historical items donated include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A large two-volume set entitled: The Solder in our Civil War. These books were owned by Fredrick Slade, a Union officer. He and his two brothers, Erastus and Kinsley were volunteers from Van Wert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A large book titled \u201cOhio History\u201d which predated the camera and contains pen and ink drawings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"550\" height=\"529\" src=\"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Mr.-Mrs-Luman-Slade-donors-of-heirloom-books-Ray-Hertz-Ruth-Ann-Densel-CHS.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-154079\"\/><figcaption>Luman and Jeanette Slade recently donated heirloom books and memorabilia to the Convoy Historical Society. Also pictured are Ray Hertz and Ruth Ann Densel. <em>Photo submitted<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>A hand written log book detailing the workings of a debate society named \u201cSociety for the Diffusion of Literary Knowledge\u201d dated 1860. Erastus Slade kept the log; both he and his brother Fredrick were active members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A large hand-written ledger entitled \u201cReduction of Currency Rules\u201d The subtitle is \u201cFor Reducing the Federal Money to the Currencies of Several United States.\u201d It was composed by Erastus Slade and is dated February 11, 182<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also donated was a book written by his sister, Marilyn Slade. The book details the history of the Slade family in the Van Wert and Convoy areas of Ohio starting in the 1850s.
