{"id":158174,"date":"2022-09-20T13:17:18","date_gmt":"2022-09-20T18:17:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=158174"},"modified":"2022-09-20T13:17:20","modified_gmt":"2022-09-20T18:17:20","slug":"prosecutor-urges-yes-vote-on-issue-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2022\/09\/20\/prosecutor-urges-yes-vote-on-issue-1\/","title":{"rendered":"Prosecutor urges yes vote on Issue 1"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>To the Editor:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A vote for Issue 1 is a vote to protect public safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Earlier this year, four justices on the Ohio Supreme Court said that Ohio judges could no longer<br>consider public safety when setting bail, even for dangerous and violent offenders.<br>\u2022 The court majority upended decades of law, disregarded their own Rules of Criminal Procedure, and ignored the plain reading of the Ohio Revised Code.<br>\u2022 Ohio judges now have limited ability to keep dangerous and violent offenders off of our streets before trial.<br>\u2022 This decision changed public policy and imposed bail reform in Ohio with no input from Ohioans.<br>\u2022 A vote for Issue 1 is a vote to reverse this dangerous decision and protect public safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A vote for Issue 1 is a vote to protect crime victims, witnesses, and Ohio communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Victims, witnesses, and Ohio communities are less safe because of this Court decision.<br>\u2022 Judges used to be able to consider the seriousness of the crime, the offender\u2019s record as a career criminal, the heinous nature of the crime, and whether the offender used a gun.<br>\u2022 Now, dangerous and violent offenders are more likely to be caught and released.<br>\u2022 These offenders have more opportunity to intimidate victims and witnesses. They have more opportunity to obstruct the criminal justice process.<br>\u2022 A vote for Issue 1 is a vote to reverse this dangerous decision and allow your judges to again better protect crime victims, witnesses, and Ohio communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A vote for Issue 1 is a vote to promote law and order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Bail reform is resulting in tragedy everywhere it is being adopted.<br>\u2022 It is contributing to the rise in crime nationwide.<br>\u2022 It is undermining law enforcement efforts to get dangerous people off of our streets<br>\u2022 It is undermining law and order.<br>\u2022 A vote for Issue 1 is a vote for law enforcement and a vote to promote law and order in your community.<br>\u2022 Vote to protect public safety.<br>\u2022 Vote to protect crime victims, witnesses, and Ohio communities.<br>\u2022 Vote to promote law and order in your community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vote YES on Issue 1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Eva J.
