{"id":162673,"date":"2023-02-02T04:38:51","date_gmt":"2023-02-02T09:38:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=162673"},"modified":"2023-02-02T04:38:52","modified_gmt":"2023-02-02T09:38:52","slug":"severe-weather-poster-contest-underway","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2023\/02\/02\/severe-weather-poster-contest-underway\/","title":{"rendered":"Severe weather poster contest underway"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>Submitted information<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>COLUMBUS \u2013 As part of the 2023 Severe Weather Awareness campaign, the Ohio Committee for Severe Weather Awareness (OCSWA), in cooperation with the National Weather Service and the Ohio Emergency Management Agency (EMA), are announcing that the annual Severe Weather Awareness Poster Contest is open for submissions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This contest is open to all Ohio students in first through sixth grade including individualized instruction (special education), public, private, and home school classes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This poster contest serves as a valuable tool to help students learn about severe weather safety and preparedness. Through their illustrations of Ohio severe weather events (tornadoes, thunderstorms, flooding, etc.), students can demonstrate what actions they can take before, during, and after severe weather events to protect themselves and others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs parents, educators, and mentors it is our responsibility to help children understand the hazards that severe weather poses,\u201d Ohio EMA Executive Director Sima Merick SAID. \u201cOhioans can experience severe weather at any time of the year.
