The free class was sponsored by the Outdoorsman Association and Friends of the NRA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Certified instructors and RSOs (Range Safety Officers) were on hand at the Ringwald Rd. range to work with beginners and those with intermediate to advanced skills. It was open to anyone 10 and up. .22 caliber pistols and rifles were used for instruction but those attending could also bring their own firearms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"350\" height=\"370\" src=\"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Jocelyn-Wray-6-18-2023-e1687250778211.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-167221\"\/><figcaption>Even as a first-timer, Jocelyn Wray was able to hit the middle of the target. <em>Scott Truxell\/Van Wert independent <\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Judy Stuckey was one of the organizers of the event and she noted it was successful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe goal was mainly to get women more comfortable with a gun in general and to learn the fun of shooting \u2013 I don\u2019t mean at anything \u2013 but just being able to shoot at a target and know that you can hit it,\u201d she said. \u201cThat\u2019s so satisfying to me. Some of the ladies shot a lot and others not very much but that was the whole point of it\u2026any woman of any age and experience level could come out and have fun today.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jocelyn Wray was one of the participants and she said she said showed up to \u201cjoin the club\u201d so to speak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI have a lot of friends who to shoot and I\u2019ve never done it before so it was a good opportunity just to come out,\u201d she explained. \u201cI learned a lot about safety and the ins and outs of shooting. There\u2019s a learning curve \u2013 where to put your hands, how to do the sighting and a lot of it is how to keep things safe, including what position is the safety on, how to load a gun, how to be safe when other people are around, plus some of the terms they use.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI would said I\u2019m much more comfortable and it\u2019s something I would look into doing more of. It\u2019s something you can do together\u2026I could do it with my husband or friends.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Britta Salinas described herself as a firearms beginner and said she learned a lot in a short amount of time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHow to properly handle guns and how to make sure they\u2019re always safe,\u201d she said. \u201cI\u2019m more comfortable and confident (now).\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ladies Day is an annual event but another one may be held as soon as late summer or fall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe try to do it every year but when COVID hit we had to stop,\u201d Stuckey said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Van Wert County Outdoorsman Association has served the community for over 50 years to promote firearm safety and to promote the education of future generations of hunters and sportsmen.
