{"id":168020,"date":"2023-07-17T03:36:06","date_gmt":"2023-07-17T08:36:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=168020"},"modified":"2023-07-17T03:36:08","modified_gmt":"2023-07-17T08:36:08","slug":"puco-orders-halt-to-some-disconnections","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2023\/07\/17\/puco-orders-halt-to-some-disconnections\/","title":{"rendered":"PUCO orders halt to some disconnections"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>Submitted information<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>COLUMBUS &#8212; The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) has ordered Ohio\u2019s investor-owned electric and natural gas utilities to suspend disconnections of customers for nonpayment if the customer has a pending application for various energy assistance programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Specifically, utilities will be prohibited from disconnecting for nonpayment for 30 days after a customer has applied for Winter and Summer Crisis programs, Home Energy Assistance Programs (HEAP), or the Percentage of Income Payment Plan (PIPP). Last Thursday\u2019s order is an addition to the existing consumer protections surrounding utility disconnections for nonpayment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cToday\u2019s order will help to ensure that Ohio\u2019s most vulnerable are not disconnected from vital utility services while they seek assistance,\u201d stated PUCO Chair Jenifer French.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Commission is expected to issue its annual \u201cspecial reconnect order\u201d later this summer.
