There\u2019s still plenty of work to be done with the turf itself and around the stadium before the first home game (August 25) vs. Bath, but everything should be ready by then.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Living in the past\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019ll admit it \u2013 I\u2019m living in the past when it comes to college football and I\u2019m okay with that. Don\u2019t get me wrong, I still very much enjoy the present day game. There\u2019s nothing quite like college football, but the changes have been mind boggling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>I miss\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Perhaps I\u2019m dating myself here but that\u2019s okay. Here are things I miss most from college football of yesteryear:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The Big 10 when it was actually 10 teams. <\/li><li>The Big 8, when Nebraska and Oklahoma dominated and another team occasionally made a run. <\/li><li>The SWC. Most of the teams seemed to be on probation all the time. <\/li><li>The PAC 10, when it was truly the PAC 10. <\/li><li>A long list of independent teams. <\/li><li>College football preview magazines like the Sporting News Yearbook and Street and Smith\u2019s, plus Don Heinrich\u2019s college and pro previews. <\/li><li>The wishbone and I formation offenses.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>There\u2019s more, but you get the picture. Anyone care to chime in?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ratings and money<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the end, conference realignment is all about money and TV ratings, nothing more, nothing less. To go a step further, it\u2019s really all about football and to some extent, basketball.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Preview<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Look for the VW independent\u2019s annual preseason WBL and NWC football preview and predictions in the coming days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thank you to all of the coaches who are sharing information and making it possible to do the annual previews and predictions. I already have a pretty good idea which team I\u2019m picking to win the WBL. The NWC is a different story and it should be an interesting race this fall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Wanted<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A reminder that the Monday Mailbag returns on Monday, August 14.
