{"id":17466,"date":"2011-12-08T04:20:20","date_gmt":"2011-12-08T09:20:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/?p=17466"},"modified":"2011-12-09T01:48:33","modified_gmt":"2011-12-09T06:48:33","slug":"commissioners-races-highlight-local-primary-ballot","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2011\/12\/08\/commissioners-races-highlight-local-primary-ballot\/","title":{"rendered":"Commissioners&#8217; races primary highlight"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>DAVE MOSIER\/<\/strong><em>independent editor<\/em><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_17467\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-17467\" style=\"width: 240px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-17467   \" style=\"border: 1px solid black\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/Campaign-button-artwork-500-px-12-2011.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"278\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-17467\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">MGN Online graphic<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Without the primary contests for two Van Wert County commissioner seats it would be a ho-hum local primary election next year.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, the seats now held by Republicans Gary Adams and Clair Dudgeon have resulted in four people running for one of the seats and two people, including Sheriff Stan Owens, seeking the other seat.<\/p>\n<p>Those filing petitions seeking the Republican nomination for the county commissioner\u2019s seat currently held by Adams that begins January 2, 2013, includes Kim Brandt, currently county 9-1-1 coordinator; attorney Todd Wolfrum, a Middle Point resident; York Township Trustee Bill Evans of rural Van Wert; and Willshire area resident Phil Baxter.<\/p>\n<p>The other seat, now held by Dudgeon, which takes office January 3, 2013, is being sought by Sheriff Owens and rural Van Wert resident Denzil Wortman.<\/p>\n<p>Both Adams and Dudgeon announced in November that they were not seeking re-election to their commissioner\u2019s seats this coming year, but would be retiring at the end of their terms in January 2013.<\/p>\n<p>Incumbents will be running unopposed in the Republican primary for seven other county offices, with the eighth office sought by a longtime employee of the department.<\/p>\n<p>Chief Deputy of Corrections Tom Riggenbach, a rural Van Wert resident, is seeking the Republican nomination for sheriff to replace his current boss.<\/p>\n<p>The seven other offices where incumbents are running unopposed in the primary include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Common Pleas Court Judge \u2013 Charles D. Steele<\/li>\n<li>County Recorder \u2013 Kim Hughes<\/li>\n<li>County Treasurer \u2013 Beverly Fuerst<\/li>\n<li>County Engineer \u2013 Kyle Wendel<\/li>\n<li>County Prosecutor \u2013 Charles F. Kennedy III<\/li>\n<li>County Clerk of Courts \u2013 Cindy Mollenkopf<\/li>\n<li>County Coroner \u2013 Dr. Scott Jarvis<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!--more-->In addition to the Republican primary for county offices, there will also be two issues on the March 6 primary ballot.<\/p>\n<p>The first is an electrical aggregation issue for the Village of Wren, while the second would attempt to break a tie in a Sunday alcohol sales issue that deadlocked 153-all when all the votes were counted in the November general election.
