SANDRA GROOMS\/<\/strong>for The Van Wert independent<\/em><\/p>\n

The Van Wert High School boys and girls swimming teams hosted Marion Local and Fort Recovery in a double dual meet at the Van Wert YMCA. The Cougar boys and girls dominated the pool, defeating both visiting teams. The boys defeated Marion Local 80-12 and Fort Recovery 66-27.\u00a0 The Cougar girls defeated Marion Local 72-22 and Fort Recovery 79-19 (Marion Local versus Fort Recovery: boys 26-57 and girls 62.5-30.5).<\/p>\n

Van Wert swimmers placed first against both teams in 20 out of 22 events. Individual girls included Erin Dingle (200-meter and 400-meter freestyle), Taylor Grooms (50-meter and 100-meter freestyle), Hannah Stemen (100-meter backstroke), Karlyn Koontz (100-meter butterfly) and Brittany Jurczyk (100-meter breaststroke).<\/p>\n

Individual boys included Eric Easley (50-meter and 100-meter freestyle), Cody Hanes (200-meter individual medley and 100-meter breaststroke), Matt Cucciarre (200-meter freestyle and 100-meter butterfly), and Trey Stemen (400 meter freestyle).<\/p>\n

All Cougar relays were also first overall: 200-meter medley — boys\u2019 (AJ Foster, Cody Hanes, Trey Stemen, Eric Easley) and girls\u2019 (Brittany Jurczyk, Karlyn Koontz, Taylor Grooms, Briana Agler); 200-meter freestyle — boys\u2019 (Foster, Adam Jurczyk, Matt Cucciarre, Hanes) and girls\u2019 (Erin Dingle, Hannah Stemen, Holly Hammond, Agler); 400-meter freestyle \u2013 boys\u2019 (Stemen, Daniel Silette, Kase Schalois, Easley) and girls\u2019 (Dingle, Andi Foster, Jurczyk, Grooms).<\/p>\n

\u201cCougars did a great job tonight,\u201d said senior captain Cody Hanes. \u201cThere were a lot of great times!\u201d<\/p>\n

Van Wert swimmers will travel Saturday to the Lima YMCA to take on Lima Bath, St. Marys and Elida.<\/p>\n
