{"id":17904,"date":"2011-12-20T02:20:34","date_gmt":"2011-12-20T07:20:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/?p=17904"},"modified":"2011-12-20T02:21:16","modified_gmt":"2011-12-20T07:21:16","slug":"cview-naming-gym-for-hall-of-fame-coach","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2011\/12\/20\/cview-naming-gym-for-hall-of-fame-coach\/","title":{"rendered":"C&#8217;view to honor Hall of Fame cage coach"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Crestview information<\/em><\/p>\n<p>CONVOY &#8212; On Friday, December 23, Crestview High School will honor former head coach and Ohio High School Basketball Coaches\u2019 Association Hall of Fame member Ray Etzler between the junior varsity and varsity basketball game with Lima Central Catholic.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_17906\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-17906\" style=\"width: 175px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-17906 \" style=\"border: 1px solid black\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/Ray-Etzler-12-2011.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"175\" height=\"245\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-17906\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ray Etzler<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Etzler, who coached the Knights for 28 years, will have the Crestview High School gymnasium dedicated in his name during the ceremony immediately following the junior varsity game.<\/p>\n<p>Coach Etzler is a 1959 graduate of Convoy-Union High School and a 1963 graduate of Defiance College.\u00a0 He served as Crestview\u2019s head basketball coach from 1964 to 1994, with the exception of 1973 and 1974 when he served as an assistant coach at Defiance College. Coach Etzler\u2019s Crestview teams won 445 games and earned nine league, 16 sectional, and five district titles, and one regional title when his team advanced to the state tournament in 1971.<\/p>\n<p>There will be a reception in Coach Etzler\u2019s honor in the Crestview auditeria following the varsity contest.\u00a0 All are invited.<\/p>\n<p>The junior varsity game with Lima Central Catholic will start at 6 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>Etzler\u2019s other accomplishments include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1994 recipient of the OHSBCA Paul Walker award<\/li>\n<li>Coach of the OHSBCA North-South All-Star game<\/li>\n<li>Coach of the Ohio-Michigan All-Star game<\/li>\n<li>Two-time coach of the District 8 All-Star game<\/li>\n<li>\u201cCoach of the Year\u201d three times in District 8<\/li>\n<li>UPI \u201cCoach of the Year\u201d<\/li>\n<li>President of the District 8 Coaches\u2019 Association<\/li>\n<li>District 8 Distinguished Service Award<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Crestview information CONVOY &#8212; On Friday, December 23, Crestview High School will honor former head coach and Ohio High School Basketball Coaches\u2019 Association Hall of Fame member Ray Etzler between the junior varsity and varsity basketball game with Lima Central Catholic.
