The latest installment of Random Thoughts includes good luck wishes to local athletes, an impressive feat, a \u2018grand\u2019 win, an OHSAA referendum item, the Indy 500 and a tasty non-sports thought.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Good luck<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Best of luck to Lincolnview\u2019s softball and baseball teams \u2013 they\u2019re slated to play in the regionals and district respectively on Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also best of luck to all remaining local track and field athletes who will compete at the regional level this week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lincolnview<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here\u2019s another impressive feat by Lincolnview\u2019s baseball program. In addition to winning four consecutive (that\u2019s back-to-back-to-back-to-back) NWC titles, a Lancer has now won the last six NWC Player of the Year Awards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here is the list:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2018 \u2013 Chayten Overholt<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2019 \u2013 Jaden Youtsey<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2021 \u2013 Landon Price<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2022 \u2013 Landon Price<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2023 \u2013 Dane Ebel<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2024 \u2013 Luke Bollenbacher<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of course, no one won the award in 2020 because there were no spring sports. Everything was shut down because of COVID-19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A \u2018grand\u2019 walk off win<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Is there anything more exciting than a grand slam walk off win?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s what happened during Sunday\u2019s TinCaps-Cubs game. Fort Wayne trailed 6-5 in the bottom of the 10th<\/sup>, when Albert Fabian launched a bases loaded home run to right field, giving the TinCaps a 9-6 win over South Bend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What a treat for the fans at the game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Referendum<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The OHSAA\u2019s referendum item 1B has been approved by member schools. If you\u2019re not familiar with it, it allows any school to move up to Division I on a sport-by-sport basis for one season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

My question is \u2013 how many schools are actually going to do this and why would they? I guess we\u2019ll get the answer soon enough \u2013 schools have to notify the OHSAA by June 3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indy 500<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of course, the Indianapolis 500 is this Sunday. I have yet to attend one, although I\u2019d like to at some point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who around here has gone and what kind of experience was it?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can do that?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A non-sports item for you \u2013 I was in the drive-through line at McDonald\u2019s on Sunday and the guy in front of me ordered a triple quarter pounder. Wait, what? You can do that?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I was so impressed and the guy (I have no idea who he is) instantly became my new hero. After a day or two to think about it, he\u2019s still kind of a hero but I realize a triple quarter pounder for me probably isn\u2019t such a good idea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
