{"id":17998,"date":"2011-12-21T14:38:14","date_gmt":"2011-12-21T19:38:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/?p=17998"},"modified":"2011-12-21T14:38:14","modified_gmt":"2011-12-21T19:38:14","slug":"camera-club-christmas-dinner","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2011\/12\/21\/camera-club-christmas-dinner\/","title":{"rendered":"Camera Club Christmas Dinner"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Rex Dolby<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_17999\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-17999\" style=\"width: 350px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-17999\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/?attachment_id=17999\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-17999 \" style=\"border: 1px solid black\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/CCChristmasDinner2011.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"263\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-17999\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Camera Club Christmas Dinner (Photo submitted.)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The pictures of the Wassenberg Camera Club&#8217;s outstanding print and slide for 2011 are included with this week&#8217;s club news.\u00a0Will Hawkins won the print division with his close-up of a dewy rose, while Jodi Hattery&#8217;s picture of a cardinal during a snowfall was selected as the best slide of the year<\/p>\n<p>In my November 23rd column I offered some suggestions for taking pictures during the holidays with a slant toward Thanksgiving.\u00a0Nearly all those suggestions would also apply at Christmas time as well.\u00a0One subject, however, that is\u00a0of addedinterest at Christmas time is outdoor lighting, and it is\u00a0about\u00a0that subject that I offer the following suggestions.<\/p>\n<p>Scout potential sites ahead of time to see when the lights are on.\u00a0Ideally, it will\u00a0be a little<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_18000\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-18000\" style=\"width: 350px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-18000\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/?attachment_id=18000\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-18000 \" style=\"border: 1px solid black\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/HatterySlide.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"263\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-18000\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Feathers &amp; Flakes, best slide of year, by Jodi Hattery.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>before sunset.\u00a0Make sure you have a tripod, extra batteries (cold really\u00a0shortens battery life) and plenty of memory on\u00a0camera&#8217;s card.\u00a0 If possible, gamble a little that there will be some snow on the ground to reflect the light before the lights are turned off or\u00a0taken down.\u00a0Whenever you do decide this is the evening to shoot, try to arrive a little before sundown while there is still light to show the surroundings.\u00a0Start too soon and the lights won&#8217;t show and if you&#8217;re\u00a0too late, the surroundings won&#8217;t show.<\/p>\n<p>Once you&#8217;re set up, take a number of pictures as the light from the sky fades.
