{"id":180922,"date":"2024-06-28T20:42:08","date_gmt":"2024-06-29T01:42:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=180922"},"modified":"2024-06-28T20:42:09","modified_gmt":"2024-06-29T01:42:09","slug":"woal-championships-set-for-july-12-13","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2024\/06\/28\/woal-championships-set-for-july-12-13\/","title":{"rendered":"WOAL championships set for July 12-13"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>Submitted information<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>BLUFFTON &#8212; More than 500 swimmers and their families will descend on Bluffton on Friday and Saturday, July 12-13, for the annual Western Ohio Aquatics League (WOAL) Swim Championships.The WOAL is for swimmers aged 5-18 who are members of one of the league\u2019s teams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bluffton Village Pool is the host site for the event and will host seven teams: Ada Gators, Bluffton Sardines, Findlay Frogs, Kenton Stingrays, Shawnee Tide, Wapakoneta Waves, Westside Wave&nbsp; and Van Wert Marlins. Teams will compete for the 2024 league title.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Events will start at 9 a.m. on Friday, July 12 and will conclude around 2 p.m. Day two of champs will start at 9 a.m. on Saturday, July 13 and will conclude around 3 p.m. The league champs will be crowned at the end of day two.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are expecting close to 3,000 people in Bluffton for the two-day event,\u201d said Jennie Wilson, manager of the Bluffton Village Pool and president of the Bluffton Sardines Swim Club. \u201cThere is great energy behind swimming as a sport in our area and the summer league program is a great way to keep the swimmers active and competitive.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each year the championships rotate between Bluffton, Kenton and Wapakoneta pools.&nbsp;This year marks the 50<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;anniversary of the Bluffton Sardines, making the meet even more meaningful for the team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Teams have been competing against each other since early June. Though many of the swimmers compete year-round with their local YMCA team, some participants also swim for local USA swimming teams and have qualified for other competitions through this program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Local companies and individual sponsors for the WOAL champs include: Lima Elks 54 Wapak (awards stand) and Visit Findlay&nbsp;(Clerk of Course area).&nbsp;T-shirt sponsors include Around the Clock \u2013 Kenton, Baker Animal Hospital \u2013 Ada, Diamond M Vet \u2013 Kenton, Curling Iron \u2013 Bluffton, JTB Tech \u2013 Bluffton, Lima Sheet Metal \u2013 Ada, Precision Strip \u2013 Kenton,&nbsp; Quest FCU-Kenton, Roger\u2019s Insurance-Kenton ,&nbsp;Van Wert&nbsp; YMCA &#8211; Van Wert and the YMCA x3 \u2013 Bluffton<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Admission is free and open to the public. Food trucks and concessions will be available for food and beverage purchases.
