As always, the Patrol is committed to removing dangerous and impaired drivers, keeping Ohioans and visitors safe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere is never an excuse for driving impaired,\u201d Governor Mike DeWine said. \u201cI encourage everyone to drive responsibly every day; troopers will have no tolerance for those driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" height=\"199\" src=\"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/OSHP-Logo-e1532741570657.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-105227\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Since 2019, there have been 72,130 impaired driving-related crashes, resulting in the deaths of 3,920 people. This accounts for 54 percent of all fatal crashes on Ohio roadways. Additionally, during the same time period, nearly 44,000 others were injured in OVI-related crashes. Alcohol and\/or drugs played a role in 53 percent of fatal crashes in the state. Of the 3,587 OVI-related fatal crashes since 2019, 28 percent were alcohol-related, 40 percent were drug-related and 32 percent were a combination of alcohol and drugs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTelling families that your loved one won\u2019t be coming home is one of the most difficult duties our troopers face, especially during the holiday season,\u201d said Colonel Charles A.
