Additionally, employers will be prohibited from requiring employees to use their annual, vacation, or sick leave to perform their duties as long as they give reasonable notice of absence.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"550\" height=\"428\" src=\"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Klopfenstein-Rogers-Jr.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-190873\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">State Representatives Elgin Rogers Jr. and Roy Klopfenstein.<em> Photo submitted<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>\u201cWith the gradual decrease in poll-working volunteers over the years, the time to act is now,\u201d Klopfenstein said. \u201cWhile current law provides some protections to our employees, it doesn\u2019t go far enough.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Current law only restricts employers from refusing to allow an employee to serve as an elected official on any registration or election day.
