{"id":191227,"date":"2025-03-28T22:07:38","date_gmt":"2025-03-29T03:07:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=191227"},"modified":"2025-03-30T21:05:41","modified_gmt":"2025-03-31T02:05:41","slug":"delphos-st-johns-senior-named-queen-jubilee-50","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2025\/03\/28\/delphos-st-johns-senior-named-queen-jubilee-50\/","title":{"rendered":"DSJ senior named Queen Jubilee 50"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>SCOTT TRUXELL\/<\/strong><em>independent editor<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Golden Jubilee \u2013 Friday night\u2019s Peony Festival Pageant at LifeHouse Church \u2013 was the perfect opportunity for Avery Altenburger to showcase her musical talents on the big stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Altenburger, a senior at Delphos St. John\u2019s, delivered a top notch vocal rendition of \u201cPopular\u201d from the musical and movie <em>Wicked<\/em> during the talent portion of the pageant and went on to win the title of Queen Jubilee 50.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"350\" height=\"438\" src=\"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Avery-Altenberger-3-2025-1-e1743386691250.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-191233\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Avery Altenburger is crowned by last year&#8217;s Queen Jubilee Claire Keysor. <em>Bob Barnes\/Van Wert independent<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>In addition to winning the crown, Altenburger, the daughter of Brian and Michelle Altenburger, won the People\u2019s Choice Award and $125, along with a $1,500 scholarship and various other gifts, including up to $750 to purchase the traditional white gown the queen wears for the Peony Festival Grand Parade in early June.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Altenburger is no stranger to sharing her vocal talents. She was recently chosen to play the lead role of Laurie in the Delphos St. John\u2019s production of <em>Oklahoma!<\/em> She\u2019s also performed with with the Bowling Green Falcons Honor Choir and was chosen to serve as cantor for Delphos St. John\u2019s Church. Her other talents extend to the classroom and beyond. She was a four-time recipient of the MAC All-Academic Award and this past season\u2019s Blue Jay volleyball team captain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Her other extracurricular activities include Future Business Leaders of America, National Honor Society, Junior Optimist, Student Council, and Catholic Athletes for Christ. Avery volunteers for many organizations, including Mike\u2019s Food on Us, West Ohio Food Bank, and Lima Memorial Hospital. Additionally, she is employed at Delphos Dairy Hut and serves as an intern at Delphos Urgent Care. Upon graduation, Altenburger plans to pursue a degree in nursing at Rhodes State College.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first runner-up was Van Wert High School\u2019s Mia Rager, who also won the talent award. Rager, the daughter of Nathan and Debbie Rager, sang \u201cSomeone Like You\u201d from the Broadway musical <em>Jekyll and Hyde<\/em>. She earned a total of $1,500 in scholarship money for her runner-up finish and talent victory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The second runner-up was Ella Davis of Lincolnview High School, the daughter of Tom and Amber Davis. She earned a $750 scholarship plus an additional $100 for winning \u201cMiss Photogenic.\u201d During the talent portion, she delivered her rendition of Whitney Houston\u2019s \u201cThe Greatest Love of All.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Kinsley Kemper, the daughter of Kelly and Terry Kemper, won Miss Congeniality while representing Ottoville High School, which earned her a $300 scholarship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Community Involvement winner was Allison Noggle, the daughter of Matthew and Erica Noggle. The Wayne Trace High School senior earned a $300 scholarship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other candidates were Shay Boroff, the daughter of John and Sheila Boroff, who represented Parkway High School; Libby Dotterer, the daughter of David Dotterer and Theresa Ratliff-Dotter, who represented Paulding High School, and McKenna Scalf, the daughter of Scott Scalf and Melissa Scalf, representing Vantage Career Center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All contestants were awarded at least $200 for being chosen as their school\u2019s candidate, and each one received a gift bag full of gifts and donations from businesses and individuals throughout the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The winners in the Little and Junior Miss fundraising contest were Little Miss Tessa Miller and Junior Miss Lilli Ricker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Flower girls were Caroline Miller, Ellie Hamman, Willow Snyder, Marley Crouch, Alivia Elwer, Kinsley Turnwald, Lowen Turnwald, Tessa Miller and Brayla Kruse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year\u2019s pageant judges were Donna Bragg, Julia Etzkorn and Kris Scherer.
