{"id":191349,"date":"2025-04-01T20:59:44","date_gmt":"2025-04-02T01:59:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=191349"},"modified":"2025-04-02T22:23:09","modified_gmt":"2025-04-03T03:23:09","slug":"latest-figures-show-local-unemployment-rose-slightly","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2025\/04\/01\/latest-figures-show-local-unemployment-rose-slightly\/","title":{"rendered":"Local unemployment increases slightly"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>SCOTT TRUXELL\/<\/strong><em>independent editor<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once again, one of Van Wert County\u2019s neighbors has the lowest unemployment rate in all of Ohio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to figures supplied by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services on Tuesday, Mercer County an unemployment rate of 3.9 percent in February, just ahead of Holmes and Union counties (4.0 percent). Another neighboring county, Auglaize County, along with Delaware County, had the state\u2019s fourth lowest jobless rate (4.2 percent).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Van Wert County fared well in the rankings, coming in tied with Putnam, Defiance, Greene, Franklin and Wayne counties for the 11<sup>th<\/sup> lowest rate, 4.8 percent, slightly above the statewide average of 4.7 percent. ODJFS said Van Wert County had a labor force of 14,600, with 13,900 employed.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"550\" height=\"603\" src=\"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Feb-2025-jobless-map.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-191350\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Feb-2025-jobless-map.jpg 550w, https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Feb-2025-jobless-map-547x600.jpg 547w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Another neighboring county, Paulding County, had a February jobless rate of 4.9 percent. Allen County\u2019s unemployment rate was 5.4 percent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From January, unemployment rates increased in 24 counties, decreased in 38 counties, and did not change in 26 counties. Locally, Van Wert County\u2019s jobless rate increased slightly from the previous month (4.7 percent). In February of 2024, the county\u2019s jobless rate was 3.7 percent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The counties with the highest unemployment rates in February were Ottawa County (9.3 percent), Monroe County (9.2 percent), Meigs County (8.9 percent), Noble County (8.6 percent) and Adams County (8.4 percent).
