DeCamp, 81, of Van Wert, passed away at 8 a.m. Thursday, May 8, 2025, at his residence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He was born November 17, 1943, in Van Wert, to George and Mary (Resor) DeCamp. Rhett married Lois DeCamp.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"275\" height=\"312\" src=\"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Rhett-DeCamp-pic.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-192627\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Rhett DeCamp<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>He was a veteran of the United States Navy. He was a member of the Van Wert American Legion, Van Wert VFW, and the N.R.A. He was an avid gun collector, outdoorsman, and woodworker. Rhett had a wonderful sense of humor, he enjoyed a good cigarette while telling stories, and especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"125\" height=\"66\" src=\"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/American-Flag-for-obituaries-6-2011.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8711\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Rhett retired from Greif in Van Wert. He also worked as a diesel mechanic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He is survived by his daughters, Tammy (Kenny) Painter and Maryann Young both of Jacksonville, Florida, and Debbie Pollock of Van Wert and Brandi Helmer of Rockford; stepsons, Ed (Tammy) Rice of Van Wert and Jeff (Taren) DeCamp of Hicksville; a sister, Alycia (fiance Dan Germann) DeCamp of Van Wert, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He was preceded in death by his parents, and wife, Lois.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Military graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at King Cemetery, Middle Point.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Online condolences may be expressed at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alspachgearhart.com\">www.alspachgearhart.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Arrangements have been entrusted to Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home &amp; Crematory, Van Wert.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rhett A.
