Now, nearly a century later, the superhero is back in Ohio in a new movie filmed in the city that gave him life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Superman (2025)&nbsp;<\/em>opens in theaters nationwide today.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"350\" height=\"313\" src=\"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/superman-hoia-logo_crop-e1752198121417.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-194722\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe story of Superman has captivated generations of families from all over the world \u2014 from grandparents who grew up reading the original comics to kids who&#8217;ll be heading to the theaters to enjoy the newest iteration of this classic adventure,\u201d Governor Mike DeWine said. \u201cThis is a proud moment for Cleveland, for Ohio, and for all of us who still believe in the power of imagination.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Several iconic Cleveland locations make an appearance in&nbsp;<em>Superman<\/em>, including&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/urldefense.proofpoint.com\/v2\/url?u=https-3A__links-2D2.govdelivery.com_CL0_https-3A-252F-252Fohiodnr.gov-252Fgo-2Dand-2Ddo-252Fplan-2Da-2Dvisit-252Ffind-2Da-2Dproperty-252Fheadlands-2Dbeach-2Dstate-2Dpark_1_01010197f4b1427a-2D1962ef0f-2D8ef5-2D458d-2Db548-2Dc3af4e2e82a0-2D000000_IYNS9paN1UHsuk-2DUY6eTJUitrcYTt7jlebnC6LOG3aM-3D413&amp;d=DwMFaQ&amp;c=euGZstcaTDllvimEN8b7jXrwqOf-v5A_CdpgnVfiiMM&amp;r=FC13PzDbVZ8qhVsUeHYgLJLYUVcrkfTA5q3JvQduqoI&amp;m=WaZeihWY0CWDUXWDq0lqDAAIvO7phoXwwTcepXJrmaYY8wsPVJnLOjTX4pKC-dBq&amp;s=0Z2Lcd21PSPpIKKtf9hspHd-19Du6ETpYs4B4SVxZN8&amp;e=\">Headlands Beach State Park<\/a>&nbsp;in nearby Mentor. Governor DeWine visited the state park during the filming, watching as the cast and crew filmed scenes on a production set depicting a vintage U.S. Army base.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other Cleveland sites that played key roles in the film\u2019s portrayal of Metropolis include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A central piece of downtown Cleveland,&nbsp;Public Square&nbsp;\u2014 including the&nbsp;Soldiers\u2019 and Sailors\u2019 Monument<strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>\u2014 was transformed into Metropolis\u2019 bustling city center. &nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Leader Building, Cleveland\u2019s last remaining historic newspaper building, was used as the exterior of the Daily Planet \u2014 the news hub of Metropolis and workplace of reporters Lois Lane, Jimmy Olsen, and Clark Kent.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Progressive Field, home to the Cleveland Guardians, was transformed into Metropolis Meteors\u2019 baseball stadium for a major action sequence.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&nbsp;The Cleveland Arcade, America\u2019s first indoor mall and a favorite among both Clevelanders and visitors, served as the backdrop for a romantic, airborne kiss between Superman and Lois Lane.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cleveland City Hall<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>was used as a fitting stand-in for Metropolis\u2019 own city hall, while\u00a0Terminal Tower, which offers a 360-degree view of the city, was featured in several sweeping shots of Metropolis\u2019 skyline.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&nbsp;Ontario Street, and the&nbsp;former Cleveland Greyhound Station, were part of fast-paced street scenes, and&nbsp;PNC Plaza&nbsp;provided the dynamic urban views that only the largest skyscrapers can offer.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&nbsp;Key Tower<strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>was depicted as the fictional headquarters of Stagg Enterprises, a research-and-development firm founded by billionaire Simon Stagg.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<em>Superman<\/em>&nbsp;crew also filmed scenes in Cincinnati at the&nbsp;Lytle Tunnel&nbsp;on Interstate 71 and the iconic&nbsp;Cincinnati Museum Center&nbsp;(formerly Union Terminal) \u2013 the latter of which had served as the inspiration for the original Hall of Justice in DC Comics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Department of Development awarded&nbsp;<em>Superman<\/em>, filmed under the code name&nbsp;<em>Genesis<\/em>, an $11 million Ohio Motion Picture Tax Credit&nbsp;in February 2024&nbsp;to bring production to Cleveland.
