{"id":195694,"date":"2025-08-08T21:53:47","date_gmt":"2025-08-09T02:53:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=195694"},"modified":"2025-08-10T20:59:56","modified_gmt":"2025-08-11T01:59:56","slug":"model-railroad-show-swap-set-for-next-weekend","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2025\/08\/08\/model-railroad-show-swap-set-for-next-weekend\/","title":{"rendered":"Model Railroad Show set for this weekend"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>SCOTT TRUXELL\/<\/strong><em>independent editor<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s an event that attracts model train enthusiasts from near and far and it\u2019s sure to do so again this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 22<sup>nd<\/sup> annual Rail Heritage Weekend Model Railroad Show &amp; Swap will be held next weekend, Saturday, August 16, and Sunday, August 17, at the Van Wert County Fairgrounds. The annual event, which is sponsored by the Van Wert County Historical Society, is being held about two weeks later than previous shows. Hours will be 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"350\" height=\"230\" src=\"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/VW-Train-Show-promo-pic-7-2020-e1754877563296.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-133293\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The 2025 Railroad Heritage Weekend Model Railroad Show and Swap will be held next weekend. <em>VW independent file photo<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Over 250 vendor tables featuring all sorts of merchandise, including \u201cO,\u201d \u201cHO\u201d and \u201cN\u201d scale trains, cars and more will be available, along with several large modular model railroad layouts, time savers, locomotive races and other displays. In all, four buildings at the fairgrounds will be used to house this year\u2019s show, and all are handicap accessible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMost of the people coming here find things here that they don\u2019t find at other shows,\u201d show organizer Chuck White said during an interview on WKSD\/WERT\u2019s Commissioners Corner\/Mayor\u2019s Conference show. \u201cMost of our vendors are within 100 miles. There are some local people and there are some people who specialize and only come come to Van Wert. I\u2019ve got one guy selling paper time tables that the railroads used to use.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve developed this reputation for having unique things,\u201d White continued. \u201cI think our show is as good as or better than most of the other shows within the state. We\u2019re as big in terms of size \u2013 we have 40,000 square feet under roof.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, the NMRA (National Model Railroad Association) will host a \u201cRun A Train\u201d event for the kids.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Admission to the Rail Heritage Weekend Model Railroad Show &amp; Swap is $7 for adults, while children 12 and under and scouts in uniform will get in free of charge. An early bird admission at 9 a.m. will be available for $10. Sunday admission includes family members.
