{"id":200156,"date":"2025-12-03T21:28:48","date_gmt":"2025-12-04T02:28:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=200156"},"modified":"2025-12-03T21:28:50","modified_gmt":"2025-12-04T02:28:50","slug":"former-non-profit-director-going-to-prison","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2025\/12\/03\/former-non-profit-director-going-to-prison\/","title":{"rendered":"Former non-profit director going to prison"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>VW independent staff\/submitted information<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>TOLEDO &#8212; The former director of a prison re-entry non-profit has been sentenced to 10-13 years behind bars for stealing more than $200,000 from the organization and its donors, including elderly Ohioans, Attorney General Dave Yost announced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHe didn\u2019t just steal money \u2013 he deprived the community of a helping hand for inmates seeking a fresh start as law-abiding citizens,\u201d Yost said. \u201cNow, it\u2019s his turn to pay a debt to society.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The sentencing of Thomas Ostrosky, 52, follows his November 12&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/links-1.govdelivery.com\/CL0\/https:%2F%2Fwww.ohioattorneygeneral.gov%2FMedia%2FNews-Releases%2FNovember-2025%2FFormer-Nonprofit-Director-Pleads-Guilty-to-Theft-o\/1\/0100019ae50fb193-e738f3af-6f8d-4b48-a81e-b8e907006831-000000\/XLja9ooezEniDkn3WOxYOATjUKjLUivSthHfIQfvQfc=434\">guilty plea<\/a>&nbsp;to felony charges of engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity, theft from a person in a protected class, solicitation fraud and telecommunications fraud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Besides the prison sentence, Ostrosky must pay restitution of $207,650, which the Attorney General\u2019s Office will distribute for charitable purposes. He also is barred from holding a position of trust or handling the financial affairs of others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ostrosky was indicted in April and arrested in Dade City, Florida, following an investigation by Yost\u2019s Charitable Law Section.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The charges stemmed from Ostrosky\u2019s management of the Lazarus Experience, a nonprofit he founded in 2017.
