The competition began in 1982 to\u00a0provide an opportunity for members of Congress\u00a0to encourage and recognize the artistic talents of their young constituents. Since then, over 650,000 high school students have been involved with the nationwide competition.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" height=\"232\" src=\"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Bob-Latta-small-headshot-2020.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-132098\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Bob Latta<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>The deadline for submission is 5 p.m.\u00a0Monday, April 13.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once received, all\u00a0artwork will be displayed in the district until honorees are recognized at a reception.\u00a0The winning piece will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol Building Complex in Washington, D.C. for one year, and three honorable mention pieces will be displayed in Latta\u2019s district offices.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOhio\u2019s Fifth District is filled with incredibly gifted young artists, and the Congressional Art Competition\u00a0provides\u00a0a great opportunity\u00a0to celebrate their talent,\u201d Latta said. \u201cEvery year, I am impressed by the\u00a0originality\u00a0and skill displayed in each submission, and\u00a0I\u2019m\u00a0excited to see the creative artwork students will share this year.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each student is allowed one entry. Eligible artwork includes the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Paintings: oil, acrylics, watercolor, etc.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Drawings: pastels, colored pencil, pencil, charcoal, ink, markers\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Collages: must be two-dimensional\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Prints: lithographs, silkscreen, block prints\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mixed Media: use of more than two mediums such as pencil, ink, etc.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Computer-Generated Art\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Photography\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>All entries must meet the following criteria:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The submission must be two-dimensional<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The submission must be no larger than 26 inches high, 26 inches wide, and four inches deep, including the frame<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It also must have a wire attached to the back suitable for hanging on a wall.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The submission must not weigh more than 15 pounds<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The submission must be original in concept, design, and execution and may not violate any U.S. copyright laws<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>It is recommended that charcoal and pastel drawings be fixed. Work entered must be in the original medium, that is, not scanned reproduction of a painting or drawing.
