I know many of us will struggle because this is the first weekend we have to survive without football.\u00a0 Of course, if you are a Cowboys fan like me, it\u2019s something we\u2019ve dealt with for some time now!<\/p>\n
So, if there is no football this weekend, what is there to do?\u00a0 I just happen to have two events in town to fill the gap.\u00a0 First of all, this Saturday night at the NPAC, the band Restless Heart is moving in for a spectacular concert.\u00a0 You may be thinking, \u201cI\u2019ve heard of Restless Heart, but I can\u2019t remember what they sang.\u201d\u00a0 Allow me to refresh your memory: \u201cI\u2019ll Still Be Loving You,\u201d \u201cBluest Eyes in Texas,\u201d \u201cTender Lie,\u201d Why Does It Have To Be ((Wrong or Right),\u201d \u201cWhen She Cries,\u201d and \u201cDancy\u2019s Dream.\u201d\u00a0 Sounds like the making of a great Valentines concert to me!<\/p>\n
During the late \u201880s and early \u201890s, Restless Heart was one of the great band success stories, turning out a series of gold-selling albums, garnering a host of award nominations, and crossing over to the adult contemporary charts before taking time off in 1996.\u00a0Even today, after a successful comeback, people aren\u2019t sure where to categorize Restless Heart music.\u00a0Is it Adult Contemporary, Pop, or Country?\u00a0 Certainly it fits in one if not all three categories.<\/p>\n
Wherever you want to categorize Restless Heart\u2019s music, you can be sure that what you hear this Saturday night will be with all the original members: Larry Stewart, Paul Gregg, John Dittrich, Dave Innis and Greg Jennings.<\/p>\n
We think it\u2019s going to be a perfect Valentine\u2019s Day weekend concert.\u00a0The concert starts at 7:30 p.m., leaving plenty of time for a nice dinner before or even leaving time afterward for a late-night capper.\u00a0 We are told that the band likes to come out in the lobby afterward and mingle, so, stick around afterward for just a few moments, though.<\/p>\n
The other event this weekend is the Van Wert County Young Artists Recital on Sunday.\u00a0 It starts at 3 p.m. and will be held at First United Methodist Church.\u00a0 It\u2019s hard to believe this will be our ninth annual recital.\u00a0 It is a chance for the public to see, hear and support some of our county school\u2019s most talented student musicians.\u00a0 They have all performed for adjudication at the Ohio Music Educator\u2019s Solo & Ensemble Contest.\u00a0 Now they have the chance to perform just for the sake of enjoyment and experience.\u00a0 It also provides a neat experience for kids from other schools to hear each other.<\/p>\n
Although stepping out on the stage at First UM Church may be a little daunting to some of these students, it is certainly a good experience and one they will probably always remember.\u00a0 I\u2019ve heard this comment from many past participants.\u00a0 I hope you can attend this free music recital and see what talented students we have in Van Wert, Crestview and Lincolnview high schools.<\/p>\n
The Young Artists Recital is sponsored by The Van Wert County Foundation, in cooperation with the local school music teachers in the high schools.<\/p>\n
So no football this weekend, but plenty of music and entertainment.\u00a0And hey, baseball is just around the corner!<\/p>\n
