There will be some business items\u00a0discussed also.<\/p>\n<p>To take an effective picture of food,\u00a0the picture must\u00a0not only display the food well, but also make the viewer think it looks good enough to eat.\u00a0If you put yourself in the shoes of a professional photographer charged with shooting food dishes for a new menu, or someone entering a recipe contest that requires an accompanying picture of the finished product, you&#8217;ll have some idea what it is that you&#8217;re trying to accomplish.<\/p>\n<p>Lighting should be natural.\u00a0Set the dish near a window or open door.\u00a0A fill flash may\u00a0over expose\u00a0the food, so use the available light.\u00a0A small flashlight, however,\u00a0may supply some highlights or\u00a0create some minor shadows to\u00a0reveal the texture of the dish. Texture may also be revealed by placing the food in direct sunlight when the sun is lower in the sky.\u00a0Choose a camera angle (45 \u00b0) that will show the top and two sides of the dish.<\/p>\n<p>Pick a\u00a0plate that allows the food to stand out and reveals something of the personality of the dish.\u00a0A French\u00a0creation might be placed on an elegant china plate with a similar pattern of silverware, stemware, and a\u00a0linen tablecloth.\u00a0Ribs on the other hand, might appear on a plainer plate with simpler table service, and possibly checkered tablecloth.\u00a0Give similar,\u00a0careful thought to the display\u00a0of\u00a0any specialty foods, such as\u00a0 those from Mexico, Italy, or China for example.\u00a0 All the\u00a0coordinated backgrounds help sell the shot, but remember that\u00a0the food\u00a0is the star and needs to be emphasized.<\/p>\n<p>Associate hot foods with hot places such as in or near a skillet or grill.\u00a0To keep the illusion of hot foods still being hot, try wiping the surface with a little vegetable oil or use a water spritz to keep the surface shiny.<\/p>\n<p>Much of what is said for photographing still life can be said for shooting food.\u00a0Try different arrangements, different angles, and different lighting until you get that winning combination.\u00a0 And when you are done, enjoy the clean-up!<\/p>\n<p>Contact the art center at 419.238.6837, via\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:wassenbergdirector@embarqmail.com\">wassenbergdirector@embarqmail.com<\/a> or visit our website at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/wassenbergartcenter.org\/\">wassenbergartcenter.org<\/a>.
