{"id":205872,"date":"2026-05-14T20:16:45","date_gmt":"2026-05-15T01:16:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/?p=205872"},"modified":"2026-05-14T20:16:46","modified_gmt":"2026-05-15T01:16:46","slug":"van-wert-native-earns-promotion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/2026\/05\/14\/van-wert-native-earns-promotion\/","title":{"rendered":"Van Wert native earns promotion"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>Submitted information<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>INDIANAPOLIS (IN) &#8212; Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance has announced that Brett Buhl has been promoted to\u00a0deputy general counsel.\u00a0Buhl\u00a0assumed the role that was previously held by\u00a0Jessica Philleo, who recently retired after 18\u00a0years\u00a0of service\u00a0with\u00a0the company.\u00a0Buhl\u00a0began his new role last month.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Buhl joined Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance in 2016\u00a0as\u00a0associate general counsel\u00a0and most recently held the position of senior associate general counsel. He\u00a0also\u00a0currently leads the company\u2019s strategic People Leadership\u00a0Team, which works to ensure company strategies are implemented effectively and appropriately. <\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" height=\"238\" src=\"https:\/\/thevwindependent.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Buhl_Brett.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-205873\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Brett Buhl<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Prior to joining Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance,\u00a0he\u00a0spent 10 years as a litigation attorney at Ogletree Deakins, a national labor and employment law firm.\u00a0In his new role, Buhl\u00a0is responsible for\u00a0the company\u2019s legal, compliance, and vendor contracting functions.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m looking forward to partnering&nbsp;with&nbsp;our leaders and&nbsp;business units&nbsp;to navigate an increasingly complex regulatory landscape, while supporting the&nbsp;company\u2019s&nbsp;continued growth,\u201d said Buhl.&nbsp;\u201cI\u2019m grateful for the support and mentorship that\u2019s helped me get here, and&nbsp;I\u2019m&nbsp;excited to lead a talented team.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Buhl&nbsp;is passionate&nbsp;about&nbsp;maintaining&nbsp;and building the trust,&nbsp;accessibility&nbsp;and solution-oriented approach of&nbsp;Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance\u2019s&nbsp;legal team.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThat includes developing our team, fostering collaboration, and ensuring we\u2019re delivering clear, actionable guidance that helps the&nbsp;company&nbsp;operate effectively while managing risk,\u201d Buhl said. \u201cI further hope to have an impact by helping the company stay ahead of change to enable continued growth, whether that\u2019s evolving regulation, emerging&nbsp;risks&nbsp;or shifts&nbsp;in the insurance market.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A graduate of Miami (OH) University, Buhl earned a bachelor\u2019s degree in&nbsp;business management. He&nbsp;earned his juris doctor&nbsp;from the University of Dayton School of Law.
